For somer reason he is totally against it. He isn't convinced by all of the marketing hype that it's any better that anything else.

From what I read and see it's a modified version of Adderall XR. I don't know about it being "better" but I gather it may work better for some compaired to Adderall XR.

my doc said the same thing basiclly. I take adderall now, and he said "I would be lucky if it worked as good".

He went on to say that most of the pharamacutical adverts he gets come from ADD drugs.

What dose of Adderall XR are you taking? I might be able to do a dose comparison for you with Vyvanse.

It didnt work out for me in the end, but I did like it better than Adderall. It was smoother, it didn't raise my heart rate as much, and it lasted longer than Adderall.

I can kind of understand the Dr's point: It's such a new drug that it's not in my insurance's formulary yet (took at least a year for Straterra to be listed there, so I'm not holding my breath), and if Adderall is working well, most Dr's like to take a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach. . . but, I think that that's somewhat unfortunate, because a lot of people (including myself) stop at something that "sort of" works, without exhausting options, and it's always possible that some other drug will work better, or will have less side effects.

For me, it's head and shoulders above Adderall. I believe it will be the gold standard in a short time.

You are the patient...you are the boss. If you don't stand up and say, "I want to try Vyvanse. A 30 day free trial is available and I want to try it and see if it works for me" then he's going to continue saying no.

With my son I told our psychiatrist, "I want Little Dude to try Vyvanse. From the anedoctal evidence I've read it sounds like it could be a good fit." She wrote us a 30 day script with a bit of fuss (she prescribed Straterra and it didn't do jack) but you know what? in the week he's been on it it's been awesome!

Yes, you have to be a bit assertive. Because otherwise, the doctor could prescibe anything they want to you, if you don't fight back a little and say "no I don't want to take it". Mom fought hard because she doesn't want to take prescription medication and she is doing well without it. Even without prescriptions, her bone density has improved.

My mom's regimin consists of:
81mg asprin daily
1200mg omega 3's 2x daily
600mg calcium 2x daily
1 mulitvitamin (Centrum Silver) daily

Vyvanse is apparently going to earn first line status due to how it works, technically an anti-pharma doctor like yours and my most recent one would most likely give you sustained release dexedrine to achieve the same effect based on it's price... The market hype is going to be it's lack of abuse liability, Once the 16 hour adderall comes out there will be an emphasis on pushing that, I hope it comes in a 90 mg dose form.

As a seprate responce, there are some "old school" doctors who will only use treatments that are from their "time" (being the time they got licenced. One thing I learned though my cognative psych class is that just getting a licence it not enough. You have to remain updated in the field.

I've been testing out VyVanse with my Dr. after trying dosages of 50 and 70 mg's. I'm now moving to Adderall XR.

I really wonder if its any better than Adderall XR. I haven't read the comparisons yet.
