Hello to all who read-

I am a 28 yo male undergrad student (senior) who was just prescribed Adderall 30mgXR today. The M.D. who wrote the script said "You're big, it won't do anything bad to you" just after I said I had HighBloodPressure and had a rather harsh CVA stroke when 21 yo.

I then asked his therapist about side effects and what to be on the lookout for and this man said "Throw out the paperwork that comes with the meds, don't obsess over side effects, it will be okay for you"

Then I asked the med-issuing pharm and she told me "rapid, irregular heartbeat, hives or rash, or fainting, discontinue and seek help".

I understand that but does anyone have any suggestions for already showing signs of heart related problems? Any advice, anything...

the HBP is controlled with meds, but still rather high (approx 130/80)...

Hi getmet79, and welcome to the forums.

I would suggest that you trust your doctors advice about the possible side effects.

I don't think she was trying to imply that there would not be a problem as much as she might have been trying to imply that there is no problem until a problem arises.

It's good to be aware of the potential side effects of any given drug before you take it, but until you actually know how you will respond to a given drug first hand it's always best to go with what your doctors feels is best concering said drug.

I look forward to hearing how the Adderall therapy works out for you.

My initial reaction: Something sounds very WRONG to me. Both of the "doctors" AND the pharmacist KNOW that you have/had HighBloodPressure and had a rather harsh CVA stroke when 21 yo but say to never-mind reading about potential side-effects and here you go --- start with this unusually high initiation dose???????????

Are you being prescribed Adderall for ADHD????

Confused,
Sue

yes, ADHD innattention type. I made a little error, my dose is Adderall 25mgXR...

Its about 10 hours post ingestion of med, watched BP and it's up a tad to 140/82 but during the day it was to 155/89(highest).

Do you notice spurts of jitters and lags of blah during this med?

Sounds concerning, eh?

Did this "MD" give you an EKG requisition too? LOL

NB Arrhythmias are a big cause of strokes. (e.g. Atrial Fibrillation or "atrial fib")

Google "arrhythmia" and "stroke".
