Hi everyone. I'm new to this board and I'm very glad to have found it. I've been reading a lot of posts and have learned a lot also. My son (who is 5) was diagnosed earlier this year with ADHD. He's had trouble in two preschools due to hyperactivity/inattentiveness. I went to the school district and he already has an IEP but that is strictly since he also started with seizures in 10/06 (he's on Tegretol for that). I need to have it updated now for the ADHD. Anyway, he's just started Kinder and we're off and running with the same problems. Yesterday, I started him on the Adderall (5 mg) and it was a miraculous change. He mellowed out, the way he spoke and carried himself seemed more positive. It was great. Today, we gave him the med again and it was like Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde. He's been hyper all day, fighting and scratching at his sister, etc. He's acted like he does off the meds. Could his dose be too low or does Adderall take time to get in his system to work consistently. He goes back to school tomorrow so I guess that will be the real test. Any thoughts? Thanks for listening.

It could be lots of different things. Personally I'd give it a little time and see what happens instead of basing how well it works on just two days. If you still have concerns, go talk to his doctor. That why they get paid the big bucks. :)

You can also try the Adderall forum. It might help too.

I had my son on Adderall for a month and a half. He constantly complained that he could not sleep. Before that he was on Straterra which was fantastic for about the same amount of time, then it quit working. I am too scared to do the trial and error of other drugs. Now, I am doing research to change his diet.
