Hey guys!

i have been on ritalin for about one week now and the effects of it are great but i am finding it hard to sleep even when i am supper tired i can't seem to get to bed untill 12 or 1 at night. :faint:

i am really stressed out at the moment cause tafe is nearing ending and tons of other bad stuff is going on so it might be the stress but does anyone else find it hard to go to sleep and even harder to wake up in the morning?

hope everyone is well

I had the same problem when I first starting taking Ritalin.

Are you taking the extended form, or multiple immediate release per day? I found that the extended wasn't "flushing" from my system quickly enough, so sleeping at night was an issue, even to the point where I had episodes of toxic psychosis. Switching to several small doses a day seemed to do the trick for me as far as trouble sleeping went. I would also suggest maybe giving it at least 3 to 4 weeks for adjustment reasons.. any new medication can take some time for your body to "get used to". But talk to your Dr definitely, especially if once your "trial" period is over it's still giving you the same issues. There are a lot of medication options out there for ADD, so while some don't work or have bad side effects, another may work very well for you. Even an adjustment in dosage or even something as simple as changing your dosage schedule may help.

Also make sure you aren't taking it too late in the day - generally Dr's suggest that you not take any stimulant medication after 6 in the evening - mine suggests not taking it any later than 3pm. Sometimes the "crash" of the meds wearing off can make sleeping difficult as well; you'll feel dead tired but if the "crash" is making you feel restless or uncomfortable it could contribute to an inability to settle down for sleep.
