View Full Version : Having Adderall outburst!
fredonian 09-18-07, 03:35 PM Greetings- I've been on Adderall for almost 6 months now, and I've noticed lately that when something occurs that REALLY makes me angry, (Often due to dumb errors on my part with banks or credit cards) I tend to go on a verbal rampage in private. I don't exhibit this behavior openly in front of others nor do I have any thoughts of physical violence. I just feel overwhelmed and go somwhere in private and blurt out tons of profanity. It's amazing to me how I can turn it off when people come around, yet I can't seem to cap it when I'm alone. Thinking back prior to taking adderall, I think similar circumstances use to make me do the same thing, but not nearly as bad or for as long. Minor things are still indifferent and I seem to handle them fine. Granted I don't get this mad often, but when it happens, I feel horrible for days. I assume adderall may be part of the cause, but I am also wondering if I am drinking too much coffee while taking it. Coffee can give a euphoric boost while on adderall, and perhaps I've been pushing the limit a bit without drinking enough water. I'm cutting back on my coffee intake today to see if it will help. Any thoughts or suggestions?
lostmyshoes14 09-18-07, 05:57 PM I notice sometimes I feel like having outbursts at times to when on adderall, maybe it is the adderall maybe it isnt. The fact of the matter is that while maybe the medication does cause you to want to go on a tirade and get angry, the medicine isnt solely responsible for it. We are all responsible for our behavior to a certain degree, so maybe you should talk to your doctor about adjusting medicines or dosages, and take a look at what causes your outbursts and avoid those situations.
fredonian 09-18-07, 09:35 PM I agree with what you are saying lostshoes, but I do mention adderall as being "part" of the problem and not the whole of it. I suppose I am seeing if anyone has any similar issues while on adderall, as you seem to relate. I think I am being a little responsible by going in private to expell such behaviors, however it may be the compelling fear of being harnessed with a net or straigt jacket that makes me do such.
fredonian 09-20-07, 03:39 PM This topic must make many uncomfortable. It's seems to be a hands off issue. I wish I could delete it.
livinginchaos 09-20-07, 03:54 PM I don't think it makes people uncomfortable, I'm guessing some people just don't know how to respond to you or haven't had the same experience.
The good thing is that you CAN control it (ie: not raging at others and only doing it when you're alone). If you couldn't then that wouldn't be good. If you don't like this part of you, then you could seek therapy to work on it. I used to have a horrible temper (not due to adderall - as I wasn't on it then) and therapy helped me work through it.
I like that you said we are all responsible for our behavior because it's completely true. we are. having these bursts of temper could be a release for you, and again, at least you're controlling it enough so you're not taking it out on others.
When i had my rages (once I started to control them) I screamed and hit pillows (alone). now, I never get angry. I laugh because most people compliment me on my patience. They don't know how hard I've worked on it (in therapy and by myself).
Something to do, to be more aware if you think it could be the adderall or just you is to track when the rages occur. Make a note of the time at which you took the adderall, the time of your rage, and what your rage was about. Writing in a journal might help you, as well. Something else that might help is writing down a plan of action, so what occurred doesn't happen again. Learning to let go and stop dwelling on the issue might help you a lot (coming up with a plan of action so it doesn't occur again might be a way of letting go).
Food for thought :)
Best wishes!
Matt S. 09-20-07, 04:21 PM I miss Adderall Rage sometimes, I had this energy during an Adderall rant that was almost manic episode-ish. My friends used to say they were kind of sucked into a vortex, my body language was intrusive and aggressive
Matt S. 09-20-07, 04:25 PM They felt as though I would hit them if they started to go or something, that happens after a good 90 mg dose though
Nocturnal 09-24-07, 01:38 AM I certainly get irritable when on Adderall. I would try to avoid caffeine if it's at all possible.

Ditto. Caffeine + Adderall= bad news for me. And yes, I did feel much more irritable on the meds than off. One of the reasons I'm no longer taking them.
Nocturnal 09-25-07, 02:48 PM I apologize but the thread title made me chuckle. I hope you're feeling better.

i noticed the outbursts when i first started but they have subsided.
uhurainmi 09-26-07, 12:21 PM does anyone else feel a ......odd.....today.
like some outside force is interrupting computers, tempers, thinking, etc.?
There is a full moon, but that usually signals a postive time for me.
Matt S. 09-26-07, 12:27 PM An outside force? Like the CIA? Or more of a supernatural or nature cycle kind of thing?
uhurainmi 09-26-07, 11:05 PM More Universal. Probably affecting the CIA as well. Doesn't it seem that sometimes everything and everybody is out of sync? Some people are more susceptible to the influence.

I'm sorry but your avatar is crackng me up! :D
steviefranchise 09-26-07, 11:49 PM OK, back to the question.
Why take other stims while on Adderall?
Dump em', you don't need them...
livinginchaos 09-27-07, 10:34 AM And BACK to the original topic, please!!!

fredonian 09-28-07, 02:17 PM Thank you all for your comments. I can assert that drinking too much coffee and not enought water was the main factor in my agitation. I think the lack of water was doing as much harm, if not more so. By increasing my water intake and decreasing coffee, I have returned to normal and have felt fine since.
Also, I hope my using Adolf Hitler's name did not offend anyone. I found it humorous that the forum editors have edited the title of my post, taking out 'Adolf Hitler', which I am totally okay with. The only reason I used it was becase I recently watched the movie "Downfall" (a recent movie depicting the last few week of Hitler's life based on the personal revelations of his private secretary who had kept silent until she had become terminally ill. She basically rewrote history; filling in many blanks. A GREAT WATCH IF YOU LIKE HISTORY!) Anyways, German actor Bruno Ganz does a superb job portraying Hitlers verbal tirades. Hitler used amphetamines quite heavily, perhaps to the point of toxcicity, during his rule. So, I thought it was a clever metaphorical base, but maybe it wasn't.
Thanks again everyone!
Charles
Matt S. 09-28-07, 02:36 PM It provided a reference point and I noticed it was edited, but it was an accurate simile of the effects of "adderall outbursts", I have an ADDer friend who carries on like that and she takes Adderall. I used to get that way too.
Matt S. 09-28-07, 02:37 PM Thanks for editing the title, some people may have been offended by it.
fredonian 09-28-07, 02:57 PM Yes, I agree. I speak or write too loosely sometimes. Adolf Hitler was bad news to say the least, and was directly responsible for the deaths of millions! However, if you love history like I do, you tend to read and study about them all. I must repeat for those who likes WWII movies, the movie "Downfall" is a masterpiece wothout a doubt. It is loaded with great acting and superb cinematography. It in know way glorifies the tryrant, it merely shows us how bad it can be when the wrong man comes to power. (Sorry, this was not on the topic of Adderall, so let me add)
Again, I have had wonderful results from increased water intake. For those of you who are drinking espressos at the coffee shops while taking adderall, keep in mind it may catch up with you in time. Be sure to drink lot of water.
Best-Charles
Nocturnal 09-28-07, 08:15 PM Charles,
I honestly thought it was extremely funny as that is not something that used to describe a feeling that I normally see online. I hope you're feeling better. I recently cut out all caffeine as well.
spunkysmum 09-29-07, 01:39 PM I get the adderall rage, too. I get mad at little thinks but like you am able to control it to a degree that I think is amazing. (The old ADD thing where you are amazed at what great things you accomplish that nobody else notices.) I am able to get over it quickly and refrain from taking it out on the person.
The only problem, if it is a problem, is that I now have even less patience for people who are rude and irritable for no apparent reason. I figure if with my legitimate obstacle to being patient and courteous I can still pull it off, those people don't have any excuse either. There is no need to punish other people for your own bad mood, IMO.
