Hey all...I was diagnosed on Sept 10 by a psychologist. At that time he said that he would do up a 'report' that I could then take to my family doctor to discuss treatment....called the psyc today and he said that he hasn't had time to look at the report yet!!! That was nine days ago!!

I asked when can I expect to be able to go see my family doc for treatment discussion and he said at least another two weeks at the earliest.....

I was never a patient person to begin with; this is not helping. It took a lot of emotional strength for me to go and get this all done to begin with. Now I have to wait even more! I feel like I'm going to lose my marbles here!!!

Oh...my family doc also prescribed me 150mg Wellbutrin XL once a day to help quit smoking. I must say that it's working really well for that as I haven't smoked in 15 days now. BUT this med makes my head bonkers, it feels like one minute I'm completely flat, unemotional and the next I am hyper, wired and ready to roll....it also makes me feel like my head is in a seperate box, attached to my body but not part of it...weird feeling.

Hi Julian,

Regarding the Wellbutrin, you need to give it some time. The effects will smooth themselves out. The first time I was on Wellbutrin (300 mg daily) it took me about a month before I was totally used to it. It is a stimulating antidepressant so it makes sense that sometimes you feel hyper.

As far as waiting for your psychologist to read the report, I agree that you've been waiting too long. Don't know what I can say to speed things up, but when I went to see a psychiatrist about my recurring bouts with depression and he determined from talking to me that I most likely suffer from adhd. He started me directly on adderall, 10 mg increasing weekly up to 40 mg, and said that we'll see if this helps. I asked him about testing and he told me that all a test will do, besides costing upwards of $1200, is tell me that I may suffer from Adhd. So this makes me think that for adults, testing may be over-rated. I guess by going directly to a psychiatrist I was able to avoid the delays that you are now dealing with.

Anyway, I think you need to dun your psychologist about this.

Good luck.

It can take a while for them to get around to writing the written evaluation. Many places take 30 days to prepare the written report after the testing. In all likilihood you can expect to have a 5-9 page written evaluation that will include a breakdown of test scores as well as a formal diagnosis based on the evaluation.

Hi Wanderingman,

I have heard of people being diagnosed and treated for their ADHD before in just the way you experienced. However, there are also many of us who have sought the counsel of psychologists and/or psychiatrists and repeatedly are told we are depressed or anxious, given medications for THOSE conditions, receive therapy for those things, etc. -- yet nothing improves for us. Then, by happenstance, we stumble across info re ADHD and feel as though we've discovered someone (the author of the material) that really understands us. Finally!! We return to the psychiatrist and he either says there is no way we have ADHD because _____________________________. Or psychiatrist/doctor says that adults don't have ADHD, etc.

For lots of us adults, getting treated for ADHD is an extremely lengthy and frustrating pursuit! Hopefully that will change soon.

My report was over 12 pages.

It took my testing centre about 30 days (a month!) to put it all together. And my place had a whole TEAM working on my report.

Why are you impatient if it has only been 9 days?

Try to be patient. It will get you a better written report.

Hey, thanks all for your replies.

I got home yesterday after work and there was a voicemail from my psychologist...asking me to come in Mon Sept 24 to go over the details of the report...YAY!

At the end of my testing a couple weeks ago, he did tell me that I was not depressed, anxious, bipolar or anything like that. He DID tell me he could clearly see ADHD but wanted to review everything and get the official 'report' done to give him a better idea.

As for the Wellbutrin, it was prescribed by my family doc, not the psychologist. I went on it to try and quit smoking and it's been 16 days, no smoking. It's been about 5 weeks now on Wellbutrin and it is NOT helping the ADHD... in fact I feel more dazed and scattered.

Testing costs that much?? I'm official with my University about my ADHD, but they said I need tests done to recieve any accomodations. Jerks, they won't even tell my professors that I have it unless I go get tested! I've been diagnosed with ADHD but they want to full break down of every little misnomer of my disorder.

Gr, I know what I need and don't need. And I can't afford that much testing.
