My son is almost 15, is diagnosed ADD, and probably borderline Asperger's as well, and is getting into all kinds of trouble. He barely passed the 8th grade, and is flunking almost every class again in 9th grade. He hangs out with all the gang members/dope smokers/petty criminals in school. He has been hauled off by the police multiple times in the past few months. We are now court-ordered to find this kid a child psychiatrist, or else. The problem is that mom and I both work, and the nearest psychiatrist is a good 3 hours away, one way. Does anyone know of an adequate psychiatrist in central Utah? Or what else we can do? He went to a counselor (not a psychiatrist) earlier in the year, and bragged to his friends about how he had the counselor fooled. We need to roll out the big guns on this kid, or he will end up in jail or foster care, which we don't want. He is just out of control, cannot or will not control himself and can't be controlled by others. We are at our wit's end as he is tearing the family apart. Help!

Are you in Utah or Texas? Your Posting says you are in El Paso, TX.

Does he have ODD or CD?

You might try calling and asking an adult psych to see if they know of any closer. I also saw that you posted in the Roll Call thread in the Utah forum. Might I suggest starting a seperate thread so it has a better chance of getting noticed?

We moved to UT about a year ago (I haven't been here for awhile!) And, yes, he's pretty ODD.

There is one psychiatrist in town, not a child psych, but he does see kids. He doesn't take our insurance, so we need to weigh the costs of out-of-pocket payments vs. traveling 3 hrs one-way, time off of work, etc.
