Has anyone here noticed that after going on medication they stopped having dreams while sleeping, or perhaps I should say that they've stopped remembering the dreams they've had.

Since I was little, I had very good memory of all dreams I would have, sometimes I was even lucid in many of them. I now however just dont' have dreams anymore. Maybe its just because i'm getting older, who knows.

How are you sleeping otherwise?

Finding it hard to go to sleep or awaken?
Sleeping more or less?
Feeling refreshed or like crap when you wake up?

Yes. I have found the same thing since going on Wellbutrin back in February. I have since gone off that and am on just Dexedrine now and still no dreams. I feel robbed. I loved my dream world. I may still dream, but I don't remember it at all anymore.

Actually, yes, I do dream but by the time I'm awake I can't remember them. All I remember is that it was weird. I hate it because I used to have very vivid dreams and a strong memory of them. But lately all I can remember [if I dream at all] is that the dream left me feeling weird or happy or sad. I only have the slightiest feeling, with no idea why I feel that way.

I find that I remember them less.

Still get the odd nightmare every few weeks.

Never was a big dream recaller, though.

re: Dream recall
Apparently, it (RECALL of DREAMS)has to do with what point in our dream cycle we awaken. Sleep, IIRC, goes in 90 min cycles.

1. Sleeping much later
2. Waking up at the same time = less sleep
3. I feel like crap when I wake, But the adderall changes that in about 1 hour

Well its good to know i'm not the only one without dreams anymore

I'm the same way, Chemist. I miss not being able to recall my dreams. Most of the time they were nice ones. It probably has to do w/ my sleep issues, however. I'm an insomniac. Even when i fall asleep it's not a good sleep. One of these days I'll go to a sleep clinic . ..

When I was diagnosed with sleep disorders, it was discovered that I was getting little to no rem sleep. This condition was probably making my adhd worse. Once I got my sleep disorders diagnosed and properly treated I started having rem sleep. I did not see any difference in my adhd, but more than one person has had their adhd "cured" by getting their sleep issues addressed. There are a few people out there who have add-like symptoms, but the root cause is sleep disorder(s).

If you are not getting any rem sleep I'd encourage you to follow up and get your sleep issues addressed because it really can make a big difference in the quality of your life.

For me, it ended up being the opposite. I started regaining my REM sleep after starting medication. This was mostly due to my caffeine usage beforehand, which was significantly reduced. My ability to recall dreams (or at least, the ability to recall that a dream happened) seems "typical", though I don't know what typical is in that respect.

What did they do to treat your sleep disorder speedo?

I use CPAP to mitigate my sleep apnea, and I take melatonin as a sleep aid. Both have helped a lot.

For some reason I was having side effects with melatonon so I could only take it intermittently, but those have diminised and I can now take it whenever I need it.

That's interesting. I rarely remember my dreams, medicine or not. It's also really hard for me to fall asleep, but taking trytophan helps a lot. I'm thinking about going to a sleep lab.

Well , you won't remember most dreams anyway.
I remember that I dream, but most of my dreams I never remember.... But a lack of dreams altogether could indicate sleep problems depriving you of rem sleep. If you snore heavily or are a restless sleeper, it could indicate a sleep problem.

One bit of trivia... not getting enough rem sleep can cause the seretonin levels in your brain to drop tremendously. This could lead to add-like symptoms, including hyperactivity.... so it can be a good thing to get it treated if you have sleep disorders.
