I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD. My doctor prescribed Adderall 10mg XR for me and told me to up it to 20mg xr in the morning if I felt I needed it. After 4 days at 20mg a day, I do not feel like I am receiveing much benefit from it. I have been able to focus a little more, and I am a little less of an annoying chatterbox at work, yet I feel like the medicine kicks in too late, and wears off too early.

I was just wondering if many of you have experience with both the XR and IR forms of the medication. Additionally, is there a significant correlation to body weight and the rate at which the body metabolizes Adderall?

I have an appointment with my doctor next week to discuss my progress and dosing issues. I don't want to ask for a higher dosage if it will not help me and I don't want to look like I am shopping for pills. I would just like for the medication to get me from the beginning of work to the end of work. Not 10:30am to 1:30pm.

Any suggestions, stories, help?

XR only lasted about 6 hours for me....in which the first four hours worked fine than 2 hours of ups and downs...now I take generic IR which last 3 hours each so I take 3 a day (90 mg). I like the the IR's better..=)

Wow.. Thats almost my exact story.

I just got diagnosed with ADHD, unfortunately I am only on 10mg doses, 1 time a day, doctor did not say to up my dosage in case it does not work, i will however stay taking 1 per day for the next week and if its still doing barely anything, I will contact my doctor again.

As you stated, i am still a major chatterbox at work, but I am focusing a bit more. However, I think part of that is the fact that I know I am on medication to help me with it, so I am subconciously forcing myself to focus, I do have the urge to get up alot though, and go talk or whatever, but I've been trying to sit still and focus, to see if this takes time to get used to.. I dunno yet.

It does seem to wear off rather quick though, but I dunno if I am even noticing anything.. i do get the dry mouth though, kind of annoying, but i've been drinking ALOT of water because of it (and i am gonna stop drinking coffee!)

I have the XR though and not the IR, it definately does not last all day at all... it helps if i take it right before work, then an hour later or more it kicks in, or less, i dunno.. (i judge by when I start getting a dry mouth lol), but it wear off quickly.. Maybe I should notice something else? :(

I take IR because, the effects of the longer release medications do not seem to be as consistent as the instant release.
