Upon much pushing from my Dr. I decided to give vyvanse a try. I was content to stay put on my 20mg xr twice a day dosage of adderall since it seemed to be working well. One major plus on adderall for me (aside from the obvious) is the weight loss. Im convinced it speeds the metabolism since whether I ate all day or nothing at all I still seemed to drop or atleast maintain my weight. So, my question is.....Does anyone know if vyvanse should give me the same benefits? Also, I was on a total of 40mg xr of addy and now im on vyvanse 50 mg.....It does not seem to be working well and im thinking my dosage is to low?? Thanks in advance for any input!!
I seen this in another post---
50mg of vyvanse= 20mg adderall XR
I would definitely discuss this with your doc, because if you were having success with 40mg XR adderall, then your new dose is half as strong (again if this 50:20 comparison is correct). Also, there is a section for Vyvanse further down the medication list you should check out.

I took Vyvanese for the first time yesterday 30mg and I ate like I normally do when I DONT take 10 mg of Adderall.
20mg of IR Adderall keeps me from eating and since I quit taking it I've gained some weight. I'm going to ask for 50mg of Vyvanese to see if it helps the weight issue.

The use of amphetamines to shed pounds is a bit archaic and dangerous I might add, it may be considered as posts involving improper use, I am saying that because the moderators on the site may not be fond of it.

That is not why I take it. I was just commenting on some one's post that wondered if it helped. I take the medication for ADD only. But I'm listing side effects such as weight loss from Adderall vs. Side effects of weight gain from Vyvanese. I will be more careful how I word things, because side effects are an issue of these medications and I think I can comment on them.

I wasn't accusing anyone of anything, I read a post and noticed that one of the benefits of the medication was weight loss that people noticed and I commented on the fact that you will, whether you like it or not develop a tolerance to that side effect, don't expect it to last.

That's frustrating to me that your doctor was "pushing" Vyvanse when Adderall XR was working fine for you. Be assured that he or she received some sort of benefit for signing you up. My advice:
Don't allow your doctor to talk you into another medication when you were experiencing no problems with the one you were taking!
Switch to another doctor. (Don't forget to call the old "doctor" and tell him or her to stop hustling drugs for pharmaceutical companies.)
Vyvanse may well be a good treatment for some people. But doctors shouldn't be pushing their patients to switch medications every time a new one comes on the market!
