Pick a question or two and ask away! speedo 09-26-07, 05:25 PM we might be able to answer, but you first have to ask a question. Welcome to the forums! me :D liiise 09-26-07, 05:32 PM is there specific things people with add do or act, i know i'm not 'normal if you will' my attention span is of a cutip, is there a test online? i'm so sick of living in fast forward, always, i was on paxil, don't think that helped at all!! speedo 09-26-07, 05:47 PM Well, ADHD is a disorder of attention, and if you have no attention span then maybe it is adhd (or maybe not). There are some ailments that can cause add like symptoms so you want to be sure that you go to a doc and have him sort that out for you. There are diagnostic criterial for ADHD here: http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23276 If you are looking for an online test it is here: http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31013 good luck Me :D Michiko74 09-26-07, 11:08 PM Ask some of your friends and family to take the same tests. Honestly that's one of the most biggest 'ah-ha!' moments I've ever had when my resutls were clearly not the same as those around me. julian32 09-27-07, 11:59 AM The first place you can start is online by researching ADHD or reading the book 'Scattered Minds' by Leonard Adler (available at Chapters or any bookstore). Then if this all 'clicks' with you and makes sense, you should see your family doctor and bring it up to him that you feel this way and why. Tell your doctor how this behavior affects you, your partner and daily living/work etc. Also, if you have report cards from school that say 'not living up to potential' , 'would do better if not talking or so disruptive', 'lazy or inattentive'...these are all tell-tale indicators. Bring this all with you to your doc. He will either interview you for ADHD (takes about 45 min) OR if he's not comfortable with diagnosing ADHD, he will refer you to a psychologist or psychiatrist for full testing. The testing takes a full day or can be done in two or three seperate apointments and it's long, tedious and mind-numbing to say the least. Then this psychologist or psychiatrist will do up a full report which you will recieve in a week or two and you will be called in to go over this report with them in great detail. You then take this report back to your family doc and discuss medical treatment or other options. Unless you see a psychiatrist--they can prescribe meds. A psychologist cannot. Hope this helps! I was diagnosed very recently and it's a long process but totally worth your time. Hope you have a medical plan too b/c the testing costs between $1200-$2000 Matt S. 09-27-07, 01:16 PM It could be a variety of things, PTSD, Bipolar disorder, Agitated depression, OCD they all include a detachment from concentration due to their symptoms, Caffiene is another one |
