I was consulting my new psychiatrist a few weeks ago and he was discussing the daytrana patch with me. I mentioned to him that I took generic ritalin a couple of years ago and found it to be excellent in helping me focus, but that I felt terrible when the effects of the medicine wore off...that when the ritalin wore off I would have depressive thoughts, like I hit a brick wall. He said that in his 30 years of prescribing ritalin, he had never heard of that effect....am I the only one who crashes like that when the ritalin wears off? If so, what do you do or take to counter that awful feeling?

I had problems with Ritalin LA working for only a couple of hours. I never crashed hard like you have, but felt the lack of effects. Your reaction certainly seems possible. People complain of crashing on stims all the time. I'm interested in Daytrana too since the drug was OK with me, just not the release system.

MANY people suffer what we like to call "rebound" effects (since crashing is what an addict does) ;). I used to have rebounds from Concerta and Ritalin and according to MY doc (a specialist, who has ADHD himself) this is not only common, its normal.

I took NOTHING to counteract rebound, for that reason alone. You either learn to live with it, it becomes less stressful or it diminishes with time...and if you are lucky, like I am, it vanishes entirely. This process takes TIME and you just have to stick it out.

IMHO, of course. I know many people are impatient and intolerant of rebound effects and take tranquilizers of some type, but I personally would rather not take 2 potentially addictive substances myself.
