Hi!
Just wanted to let you now about our positive(so far) result. I am really excited! We have tried most of the meds and have had issue with moodiness, irritablity, and anger. We tried Concerta, Adderall, Focalin, Metadate and Strattera. He would have these episodes in the am and evenings. I guess we had a severe rebound effect? Anyway, so far he is doing good. It really lasts a lot longer, which is great. Most of the other meds would wear off by about 4. I noticed that is lasted around 10 or so hrs. He came home and did his homework without me even asking. That was a first. He never became irritable or angry! Wow, Please pray this will last, if not, I don't know what we will do. The side effects were not worth the benefits, until now???

:)

That's wonderful to hear. I am so happy that something is working better.

In response to the comment you made about how you, "don't know what we you will do" if this does not last, I would suggest if it does not last that you might want to consider talking to your Dr about the drug Dexedrine.

I mention Dexedrine for a couple of reasons. First, I did not see it on the list of medications that you claimed your son had tried before, and secondly because the active ingredient in Dexedrine is dextroamphetamine which is the same active ingredient that your son is currently responding so well to in Vyvanse.

Brandye, how big is your son and what dose is he getting? My kid is 7 (almost 8), 52" and 68 pounds. He's on the lowest dose of Vyvanse but man, he's going strong from 6 AM to 8 PM with no real crash. And they say it's supposed to last only 12 hours...ha!

We got lucky. Vyvanse was the second one we tried and it's working great. We just completed a project that's due on Friday plus he did a 24 question math quiz in 10 minutes...only missed 1!!!

Hey!
I sent you a msg on another thread... I read your son is doing a jaw thing? My so is doing that too. He started doing it after starting Adderall and is still doing it with Vyvanse. Has your son stopped doing it? Is it a tic? I am a little concerned about it. The med is working so well, I hate to stop it!

Sorry you answered this question in another post! Thanks!

Thats awesome! His results are better then mine =P

The first few days I took Vyvanse, I was mad as hell all the time, every thing ticked me off XP I bumped up the dose the other day, I'm hoping it will start kicking in better really soon. Also doesn't help out that I'm EXTREMELY stressed out currently X_X Not at all.

Though after the moody stage passed I felt fine, I've felt pretty good since I've been on it, thats always a good thing :D

i agree with Lars.

Dexedrine is the mildest (side effect wise) and has had 70 years of usage on the market. (Plenty of time to figure out if it causes problems.)

Sadly, being "beyond patent" it is NOT advertised to doctors, so they forget about its existence.

I have not read of s case of "moodiness" or "irritability" or such, after Dexedrine wears off, actually, by users on here, IIRC.

Sadly, it did not last. The Vyvanse started well, but lasted only 1 month. He started having the same side effects as all the other stimulants. He had insomnia, moodiness, irritability, mouth tic, was argumentative and impossible. We actually saw a new psychiatrist that was great. I am keeping him off meds for a while and see if we can do it. He has been off for 2 wks and is doing pretty well. The doctor said some kids do not metabolize the meds well. He said if we cannot keep him off, we will try Clonodine(?) at bedtime. My son seems to only need a little help, as he makes great grades even off meds. He just talks and hurries through his work at school. The negative effects were not worth the positive for MY SON. I know they help others tremendously. He has lost so much weight and hated the way the meds made him feel. We did not find this medicine to be any better than any other after a month.

Its really interesting hearing about the people who are feeling angry or irritated as well as those who are crashing at night.

I feel so mellow that in situations I would get upset at before I smile and just work through it. I talk slow and relaxed instead of a mile a minute and find that nothing seems to get under my skin so I'm very jolly all the time.

I take it at 6:45am and feel the effects all day. I don't get tired at all until around 9:30-10:30 and then when I go to sleep before midnight I'm up fully refreshed and full of energy at 6:45 the next morning. (Before this I was very angry, frustrated, bored, etc now it's all gone).

My son could not take the 30 mil anymore. HE had insominia (up from 6am - 2 am), extremely bad dry mouth, a mouth tic, constipation, could not sit still, and he would not shut up. He talked constantly to the point of being past annoying. He would get irritated at himself. I finnally told the doc and he cut him down to 1/2 doses. i hope this works.

Not one crash yet, no irritable mood, actually the opposite. No more tiredness during the day, good sleep at night for 6-7 hours. Except for the first day or two at each new dose where I felt "wired", no negative side effects aside from dry mouth.
