View Full Version : Yoga and ADD
scatterbrain 03-24-03, 07:22 AM I am 30,and since i was 16,i have gone periods of time where i did yoga regularily.Looking back, every period of time when i was doing yoga every day,was a period of time when things were flowing and going well and when i felt balanced.for me initially,a daily routine of yoga for a half hour or an hour(better) is hard to get into.i have to force myself....but it pays off.after a week or so i start looking forward to it because i feel so calm after yet energized.i find that the combination of slowly and methodically stretching while focusing on the sensations in my body,to be very grounding and very very good stress relief.stress magnifies my ADD incredibly...so this works great for me.also the good posture and legnthened muscles help me look good and come accross more open to others.life seems more relaxed in general when i do yoga :) i usually use Richard Hittlemans 28 day yoga plan because i can follow it daily and it starts slow.....and of course because it is a plan..i dont get lost in my chaos doing it!!
I went to a yoga session at the ADDA conference. It was great especially since all of us in the room were ADDers. I came out of there with a mixture of a "high" and calm feeling.
Getting into a yoga program is another thing on my "To Do" list.
I do yoga once in a blue moon. I have a Yoga video, getting through the whole thing can be boring and time-consuming, but near the end of it you reach a point where you feel sooo nice. I guess it's not worth the boredom though cos I barely ever do it =p
Kirsten 01-18-05, 10:16 PM hey,
i took a yoga class and i loved it b/c it was guided...i also liked the feel and simplicity of it..tell me, you bought the book, right? when do you normally do it? i'm not sure if i have the willpower or drive to do it on my own..
Jami Lea 01-18-05, 10:38 PM Can you post a few yoga exercise instructions? I am also a scatterbrain lol...my mom told me that I should take up yoga...but how do you do it for a person who doesn't have a lot of time....money...and procrastinates alot? LOL
...Daria 01-18-05, 10:49 PM yes I have a yoga video as well and I buy them with short sessions .. due to the ADD reaction of getting frustrated and bored very easily with it. And believe it or not it can be benificial. I have noticed that it does calm my racing mind.. even if for a few min. It is most helpful.
Jami Lea 01-18-05, 10:55 PM *goes to google to search for some instructions*
LOL

Life sucks and then you die! that is what has been said.. so do you just cease from existing or keep on keepin' on? Which do you choose?? I have chosen to try my best to live a little.. or maybe even a lot.. but one thing I know.. I am tryin without meds.
auntchris 01-29-05, 12:24 AM I used to take dance classes until 4 1/2 yrs ago. Alot of ballet and modern class was centered around yoga. I also use to do yoga with my mom when I was little. I feel better afterward and in whole I feel loser all over. They say in yoga, you are only as young as your spine is flexible. auntchris:D
My monster big dog has such a supple spine. I'm always envious when I watch her play. I'm finding old yoga habits creeping into my stretching routines after I run. :)
Anything I can do to slow down my mind and body seems to be very good for me. Yoga falls into that category. Taking a few minutes in the morning before I get started and a few minutes before bed is very helpful.
Cheers! Ian.
fasttalkingmom 01-29-05, 09:46 AM I tried yoga just last year......
I had a hard time relaxing and focusing my mind on my breathing.......
I stopped after 3 months feeling I wasn't getting any real benefits from it.....
practise practise practise.. :) I so often feel like it's not doing a thing for me either. Yoga, meditation or any of the more passive modes of healthful living. Then every once in a while I get dialled in. It's much like my running really. I show up and do the thing, but mostly it's boring and uneventful. Then every now and again there is a magic moment and I luxuriate in deep rest. It's brilliant. For me it's like reading a book that's over my head. I read it anyway and am content to take away what I can.
Cheers! Ian. I'm so glad I can grasp some of it at least.
