View Full Version : Yeaaaa!!! I'm in the club.. I'm ADD positive!!
Just wanted to announce that I've had all the testing done and I am ADD positive INFJ type!! Hooray!!
That may sound strange, but I'm realizing this is a gift and I just have to learn how to handle it. I'm already working on a daily schedule to help me keep on course, along with reading a lot about ADHD (ADD) and what other people have gone through.. and of course, reading on this forum.
My therapest also has me taking an Omega supplement by Barleans"s which also may help. I'm going to hold off on the drug route, try all this first.
For the first time in my likfe I realize that I am just different, not defective or brain damaged. My problem in the past has been trying to fit into situations that don't mesh with my ADD type of thinking. After a 6 year absence from painting as an artist, I am at it again with new energy and hope and things are happening.. I'm learning to be patient and take things in steps and deal with problems that always used to stop me in the past.
DeloresMelon 10-06-07, 01:17 PM I too felt complete and total relief knowing I had an answer and I wasn't just a mental oddity.
Great feeling eh? lol
Well done and good luck!
hollyduck 10-06-07, 02:39 PM INFJ? Isn't that Myers-Briggs Type Indicator? What does that have to do with ADD?
Just curious.
Ducky
Congratulations on getting your diagnosis! :D

INFJ? Isn't that Myers-Briggs Type Indicator? What does that have to do with ADD?
Just curious.
DuckyYou would have to talk to my psychologist, Chuck Hutchens, who is a specialist in ADD, . He ran me through a battery of questionairs and three meetings, but no brain wave tests or anything. He told me that there are a lot of sub catagories of ADHD, that it isn't just hyper and non hyper. He also said I was a "Type 3" ..control/panic. I'm sorry I'm not more up on all of this, I'm mainly interested in what I can do about it to take control.
I'm painting plein air (outside, quickly done paintings in one stting). Something I've always wanted to learn as I used to always paint in a very controlled, detailed manner, and now I know why. Anyway, I'm learning and sticking with it. Here is a painting, 9x12 oil of a beautiful spot in Point Lobos park here on the coast. Hope you all like it. Crackerjack 10-06-07, 07:02 PM Wow. Nice painting.
Im INFP :) Pretty close match eh? Never professional tested on that though, just always what I get when I do it. I love your painting!
Crazy~Feet 10-12-07, 05:44 AM INFP here too. ADHD positive! Also artistic, my graphics grew from infancy here at ADDF.
Cool to meet people you have much in common with, isn't it? :)

I am usually really positive regarding my (so called) ADD , but Id like to take this time to Caution you " Don't Get to cocky , too quickly ", as ADD has a tendency to sneak up and kick you in the **** , when you least expect it...
I also tend to look at my ADD as a gift , now that I can look back across the years , as I can see how many of my friends ( who are quite happy with thier lives ) , many of them have had 1 ( ONE ) job since they left school
get up
go to work
come home
watch tv
go to bed
go back to # 1 and start again
I have lost track of all my different experences and jobs , but I have never lost the knowlage I gained at each of them....
Go with you new found knowlage ( Yeaaaa!!! I'm in the club.. I'm ADD positive!! )
But go with Caution !!!!!
here are 2 posts that I have always liked to share with new members of the CLUB
by The Warrior (http://www.addforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=430568&postcount=127)
by Edward M. Hallowell, M.D. (http://www.addforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=430568&postcount=127) ( Copyright (C) 1992 )
NonSequitur 10-12-07, 10:11 AM Love the painting! I do some artsy stuff too, when the spirit moves me.
Another INFP here! And the psychologist said it was a rare type. :eyebrow:
Thanks everyone!
I see myself in much of what Dr. Hallowell writes, good article. I started reading his Delivered from Distraction book last night. I just randomly opened the book and read the Slip and Slide chapters, which came at precisely the right time as I have been doing exactly that recently.. what is amazing is to have some one point out what you are doing and then by realizing that you suddenly have so much more ability to do something about it.. you suddenly find the steering wheel again and make corrections to keep from going off the road. I'm not worried about using drug therapy (I was before), I'll try that next only if I have to, right now I am concentrating on keeping a daily ledger/schedule and doing a lot of talking with my therapist and with my ADD "leader" and things are working, with a lot of effort.
It's sort of like I have been living in this fog all my life, bumping into other non fog people and things while I have been sometimes creating rainbows and other things of beauty out of the fog. I then emerge from it in terror and self doubt as an ingrained narcissist Father's influence and the non fog people keep pulling me out and making me face the non fog realities.. then, though no choice of my own, I'm drawn back into the fog. I know now that I can live in both places, I have too as that was what I was put here for.. that is the gift and I am going to give the gift back with my art work.
I'm going to.. I am, learning to have patience and I'm learning to deal with the angst of things and living.. learning to not let what I see happening in the world over whelm me. I'm also realizing all the little road posts and miracles that have been thrown in front of me all my life are real and not to be ignored.
Sorry to ramble on for so long. :eyebrow:
Thanks again, everyone.
Thats what were here for
so you can ramble and babble to your hearts content
Dont worry , someone will tell you if you need to be worring about your rambling
So Ramble on sir
maori_boy 10-12-07, 08:24 PM Wow that painting is really awesome!!! keep at it bro cuz uve got an awesome gift.
welcome to the add club brother!
Yes, I read "The Warrior" post, and I totally agree.. I've got to, and am going to get through this! Thanks!
zach_&_sam_mom 10-12-07, 10:42 PM As someone who is waiting for the testing, I completly understand how this is a positive time for you.
I'm tiried of being lazy, messy, selfish, and careless. Most of the time I love my inattention-someone starts to talk about stupid stuff, I don't have to listen- but when I hit that wall face first... I hate the talk that comes after... you're too smart for this, this type of work just shows that you plain don't care.
I wish you the best of luck with your Doctor, and treatment that you decide on.
what it is with yeaaaa!!! thing ?
me cried in heart when i know too late bout my add...
maori_boy 10-13-07, 09:27 AM wen i found out i had adhd, i was relived. it meant ther was a reason why i forget things all th time, cant sit still, so impulsive and everything else.
i think its just a relief feeling.

me cried in heart when i know too late bout my add...I know it sounds like a cliche, but it really is "never to late." Especially when you think about it.. what is the alternative? Read the warrior post that was suggested above, it has some good reasons not to think all is lost.. all is lost, only if you do nothing!
I did this painting yesterday called "ADD Gate"
oil on canvas 12"x16" (click for painting) (http://www.rhoag.com/pix/Recent_Paintings/ADD_Gate_resize.jpg)
The path is dark, but cool and comforting, the beach is bright and inviting.. you can have them both.

This display of your creative mind makes me want to break my saxophone back out.

Do it!!!
HooahMSII 10-13-07, 05:34 PM I'm still surprised that I'm so surprised about your work. Normally when someone on the internet says, "I painted/drew this, take a look", the "art" usually ends up looking like a retarded epileptic monkey drew it using MS paint.
I was impressed with not only the quality of the art itself, but how you were able to express so many words with a picture. Maybe I'm discovering a new appreciation for art? I used to think it was a waste of time :P

I used to think it was a waste of time :PThanks, Hooah: If I got you interested in art that's great.. take a trip down to your local museum, or hopefully, high quality galleries, you will probably see many more things that will keep your interest going in art.
I've been painting professionally most of my life, I just got off track, and haven't painted for about 6.. actually, it's been eight years, and I've really missed it. I'm diveing back into it and approaching my painting in a different, more spontanious manner, so I've having to learn brush control and other techniques I didn't used to use. My ADD always stopped me before.. I wanted instant success.. now I'm learning to take things in small steps. I think that would be true of anything you are trying to learn or improve.. good luck with your Sax, let us know how it goes.
Cheers!

The path is dark, but cool and comforting, the beach is bright and inviting.. you can have them both. That painting is amazing. Seriously. I considered logging in to say how good the painting is, then I procrastinated on it and managed to drag myself into logging in, just to say this :P
Great painting ADD3D! Do you only paint or do you use other medias as well?
meadd823 10-15-07, 11:58 PM ADD3D I think your attitude is wonderful, do your self a favor and take a mental memory picture of it now so during those times when you loose focus or sight for enthusiasm you can return to this as a memory, Maybe book mark this post. I have done that to several of my post that were epiphanies and when I feel bla or feel lost in the mental fog of wtf I can pull up these moments and remember.
Also I think you art work would make a great addition to our Visual Arts, Photography and Artwork (http://www.addforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=121) section where you can post your art work while viewing the work of other members as well.
Thanks all, and some good ideas there, and I'll check out the arts section. I am trying to restrict myself to just drawing and painting now, as I have gotten too scattered in the past doing constructions, and other spin off projects.
