I am a 32 year old male who has just been told I have add. The dr prescribed me Vyvanse two week ago. I took it for about four days and it felt like I was speeding but felt good. Arould the 12th hour of the medicine I start feeling sluggish and a bad headach. I took a couple of days off and started taking it again. The speedy feeling is slowing down but I still fell different.
The doctor I went to was a family dr and not a psch dr. So I am not 100% sure he knows what he is talking about. Yesterday it felt like my heart was pounding and I checked my resting heart rate at 88 beats per minute. Is this normal? I am going to try to take two days a week in fear of becoming hooked on this stuff. Is this stuff dangerous, fatal, or am I just being over cautious?
I also seem to sleep better on this stuff....Wierd

Lately I have been doing a lot of research about our unique medical condition- ADD/ADHD and one thing I've read a lot is to take the medication 7 days a week. Of course, if you want to take days off that is your choice and it will not hurt you per se. However, if you are benefiting from your medication, don't get all caught up thinking that you are going to be addicted or develop this and that. Now for someone who doesn't have ADD/ADHD this may not be the case; however, your doctor diagnosed you and prescribed this medication to you.

I wish you best of luck and would really encourage you to discuss these and other concerns with your doctor.

Also, heart rate of 88 is perfectly fine.

Welcome aboard!

The 'speediness' is a euphoria feeling that will quickly go away as your body adjusts.

The headache feeling you get later in the day is the 'rebound' effect. This tends to go away over time as you get used to the required dosage your body needs. Do a forum search on the Titration process and you will learn about how your doctor should be proceeding with dosing.

good luck

ndn, I think you need to be consistant in taking it. 2 days a week isn't really enough to know if it's working or not.

I know it took my kid some adjusting. HE did a weird jaw waggling thing the first couple of days. He was the Energizer Bunny for that first week. His appetite was nothing (this child can put away the food too!). It's since leveled out but we're not dosing him on the weekends; we want him to eat for goodness sake!
