Today was one of those days through which I experience the consequences of ADHD. It plays out the same but but constructed with diverse elements of time and place. The emotional response is always the same; a feeling of something is wrong.
Let me set this up for you. I'm a want-be redneck. That is I was raised in a city but moved to the country for twenty-five years and now I find myself back where I started. Living in the country gives me a sense of freedom with all the wide open spaces. My dog, Cody, is a mixed breed of half Husky and half Rautweiller. He is the friendlest pup I have ever had. However he looks like the "el diablo" with his brite blue eyes and pit-bull head and body.
Cody has taken on alot of what I have, of course, impressed on him. Unfortunately for us he is undiscplined and naive; like me. When we are out in the bush alone it is great. However when other people and animals get into the mix s$#t happens!
Today we got down to the range in the afternoon. The central meeting point there is he picknick tables by the trailer in which all the clubs supplies such as targets are stored. Also adjacent to this area is the horseshoe-pit. I love to play horseshoes.
Well when I got there a group of people and dogs already present. Folks shooting targets with their bow and arrows and others throwing horeshoes.
So I backed up my four wheel drive near the horseshoe pit and challenged a game.
I only knew one guy name of Bob. The other fellas and their dogs were unfamiliar to me so I kept Cody on a leash to check things out and make sure everything was cool. They said their pups were cool and that I should unleash Cody. So I did so against my better judgement.
All was well at first and then the dogs (all males) began to recuss. I shouted out to the other dog owner;"Watch it man he will kill that dog!!"
What I meant to express was something like I told you so;if those dogs start fighting I know Codies going to kick some ***. I know him and as good hearted as he is if he is pushed against a wall he will fight back and well maybe really cause some damage.
Unfortunately my utterance and presentation were misinterrupted. Those guys got ****ed. Like ah; "What do you mean your dog is going to kill my dog? Yoo *****!" And my response was like; "Ah,ah well ah, I didn't mean that exactly. Chill out man.". And thinking to myself "Oh **** here we go again".
Anyway we all had a good day and left friends. I can't stop thinking about how much better that situation could have been handled. I hope to keep honing my social skills to avoid such incidences. I do the best I can with what I got and at this point it's what it is. I like myself and so do some others after they get to know who I am.
What about you?
