I was a person in those circumstances in my mid to late teens and I think that the impulsiveness issues that go with my particular flavor of ADHD were a contributing factor in my issues that occurred in the legal system.
The plus side for anyone even if they have the barriers that go along with a criminal record (teenagers over 16 are most of the time considered adults in the legal sense), they can always improve the quality of their life by pursuing post secondary education.

This is what I mean when I mention how there are no ADHD++ adult males around the internet boards or post-secondary schools..
[Please remember though, that some of these kids grew up with multi-generational "anti-social" parenting, too. (e.g. going to jail was not unheard of; lots of trauma and instability (negatives); no enrichment/child investment (no positives)). In my prison hometown, there are families where multigenerational incarceration, convictions for violence, and being a grandma by age 35-40 is "the norm".] The kids are mostly functionally mentally retarded {MR} too, b/c of "neglect" and gross family "instability". Most MR is caused by "sociocultural reasons". That means raising a child in an environment where they probably weren't wanted, basically are barely tolerated, and generally don't matter -- b/c those Parents (with their leftover and unmet childhood needs) are constantly self-focused in their own misery and struggles (e.g. can't keep a job or home; addictions; codependencies; empty emotional reserves). Not a "child centred home".
re: impulsivity
Many crimes by criminals, believe it or not, are not planned.
People with low frustration tolerance (and low coping abilities and low/no resources in) will get under stress (outta smokes; need drug money; violate others rights like theirs were violated) and do the first IMPULSIVE thing that they see/feel.
Zero mindfulness or brakes.
This is also an illustration of why the DP (death penalty) is a joke as a deterrant.
Due to Frontal Lobe (planning) and impulse control (brakes) dysfunctions in the brain, the people can't even "PREDICT" that "gee, if this robbery goes wrong and someone dies of a stray bullet, i can get LIFE in prison or the Death Penalty." (That sentencing Rule in the USA, about someone being killed DURING the commission of a Felony, being designated as "murder".)
Often, the people haven't even thought out _how they will get out of the bank or store, after the Robbery_!
The brain workings are just not there. (Which, sadly, means they are ALSO morelikley to get caught. They can't run Prediction Algorithms in their brain to "anticipate" glitches and troubleshoot problems.)
Anyone who has to use VIOLENCE (or crime) to solve a problem, or survive, is probably really un-resourced, skill and planning wise.

If that was meant toward me in any way, I can defend myself by clearly stating that I have an adult criminal record for behavior from the age of 16, but I am probably just getting paranoid...
