My son's doctor wants us to try Vyvanse. Has anyone tried it? Does it really last 12 hours?
What about side effects?

KittenPoker 10-19-07, 07:22 AM http://www.addforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=318 There's a whole forum for Vyvanse :). My 7 yr-old son started it one month ago today. The change is dramatic! He'd completely shut down in 2nd grade because he was so overwhelmed. Before he'd whine about "But I don't know how to read!" Now he's reading to us. Homework took 90+ minutes with boatloads of excuses. Now he gets right on it, does it, and does it with about 90% accuracy. His creativity has kicked in; he loves to draw now! OUr therapist was pleased to see some examples because it shows that our boy can focus and finish a project. He takes it at 6:00 AM. By the time school starts at 8:45 it's kicked in. We find it does last about 12-13 hours. The taper-off is easy too. Side effects we noticed: At first he did a strange jaw waggle. That stopped within a couple of days. At first he was very GO GO GO! but that's eased off. He no longer wets the bed at night. However, if he's off it for more than a day he starts wetting again. His appetite was gone at first. It's come back to almost normal levels. Hope this helps! Greybeard 10-19-07, 10:56 AM KittenPoker, Sorry for posting in the wrong section. I'm new to these forums (and the 'posting' concept). Thank you so much for your advice and input. It really helps. My son is on Foxalin XR now and it doesn't do much good. It decreases his hyperactivity, which is great (we're no longer peeling him off the wall), but it makes him depressed, moody, restless and obsessive compulsive. It also last 5 hours, max! |
