Well...we knew it was coming...with my history,...the way the boy has acted...but....ADHD is now officially a problem at school. Its been building up...first he wouldn't listen to the teacher and get up a lot, not do his work on his own, easily distracted...we met a learning group (principle, teacher, learning specialist, etc.) and came up with some strategies...yesterday and today though it reached a new level...he bolted out of the class yesterday and gave everyone in the school a heart attack..today he hit a kid in the leg because the kid was trying to get a toy he had..a toy he "took" out of the lost and found basket..and then later was running around the room pretending to be a fairly odd parent and threw his clipboard accross the room...they finally just sent him home because it was so bad...

...we cannot afford a program like DORE and we don't want to medicate him at this age without trying some other htings first...but we feel so overwhelmed...we have been delaing with my BIPolar/ADHD issues and that has been challening, but adding this has really beat us down...we will pick ourselves back up and do everything in our power to help him, but it's a very frustrating time right now...

any advice would be appreciated...

It may not be what you want to hear......but......dexadrine did a number on me when I was younger and that way. My parents also set up a counselor at my school, where everyday I could take time out to go and play games and talk to him. Looking back I think that helped because it gave me something to focus on, as it could be taken away if I misbehaved. I dunno man, I have no children, but I remember that time in my life where I was like that in school, and thats what they did for me. Hope things work out for you.

An IEP might help. We do play therapy with Steven and that with medication has done wonders.

We (well more hubby then me really) didn't want to medicate right away either. It rapidly because apparent though that medication seemed the only option. Now it's a combo. I don't think he would be doing as well without his medication, but I also don't think the play therapy would help alone either.
