My son was born at 29 weeks. He is a twin. He was born early becouse thay could not find his heart rate.
Flash forword. He is 4 1/2 years old . He is developmentally delaied. He has problems with his speech and required speach and occupational theropies. He also has no knowledge or desire to go to the potty. We all seem to think that he has bowel and kidness perolisis becoouse he lacks the earge and cannot tell that he has gone all over himself. We think this stims from his Sacrial dimple (mild form of spinna biffita). His teacher now sais that she thinks he should be medicated for ADHD. I went onto the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) web page and looked out their guide lines for ADHD. From what I can tell he fits all the catagories. I am beside my self. He is a very hard child to handle. He is in his own world. I hate to punnish him for things he cannot help. I would also hate to think that he would have been medicated for ADHD if it was a side effect of his physical problems. I have to fight to get him to consentrate on anything. I have to fight him to cooperate in public. he doesnt want to stay on task. He does not even want to go to sleep. I have to fight him for hours on end to get him down at night. He never stopps going or fiditting. I am scared to death to find out this is what it is. I dont want my child to be medicated for anything else. What do I do?

Hi there, and welcome to the forums. Dealing with anyone that has ADHD can be difficult, but it is not the end of the world. What you should probably do is find a specialist in ADHD, or in neurological conditions and speak to him. Being medicated for ADHD is not all that bad, as long as it is done properly. I did alot of things to act out when I was a child, but thankfully I was diagnosed fairly early and was able to be medicated. I wasn't the best student in school, but I was able to function for the most part. The best advice I could offer you would be to do more research on ADHD and talk to a specialist. That would probably be your best bet.

Thank you. My son is in the the process to dianosis. He has an Appt. for a ped. urologist on weds for his potty problems. He also has an APPT. on the 29th to see our family doc to be refered to a nerologist (whom we have been wonting to send him to for a while b/c of his spina bifita). I hope we can get things in order form there.

It sounds like it would, I just said specialist because it is easy for a general practitioner to perscribe medicine for ADD, but you really need to see someone who completely understands the disorder and can really help your son. Good luck with the appts, and post how they go! :)
