... Public Defender Kathy Roller attributed the teen's "emotional
disconnect" to evidence the boy had suffered from depression and attention deficit disorder ...

I honestly find offense with people who use ADD/ADHD as a form of defense in a court room setting. It all comes down to one thing: Only one person/thing is responsible for my behaviour's ---MYSELF.

I couldn't tell if it was used as a defense by this article but AD/HD doesn't make a person kill.

exactly my point and what I am trying to teach my children. ONLY they are responsible for their behaviours. I tell them ADD is NOT a crutch. Hopefully someday soon it will sink in.lol

how about: the boy killed his father because he had fairly easy access to a weapon? had that locked closet not been there, with the guns and ammo inside, dad would still be alive. anger clouded the kids judgement; guns allow a person to act on that anger in an instant. i don't think he would have stabbed or strangled his father, because that takes too much thought and energy. firing a gun does not. even loading and firing a gun doesn't.

the ad/hd can be blamed for his lack of maturity, perhaps, but that is all....

I'm sorry Judit but people kill not guns. Sorry, I'm a hick; but, there were more precautionary measure's that could have been taken. We keep our guns in a metal, fire proof gun safe. The key is then locked in the filling cabinet. And that key is kept on our key ring's. And my children 10-8 have yet to handle a real gun. First they must graduate a gun safety course; but, they will not be allowed to even participate in a gun safety course until they learn to NOT point their play guns at another person. And that is only MY opinion.

it seems this kid should've had that kind of training, seeing as how his dad was a cop. i'm just saying, because he had access to the gun, dad ended up dead. without that access, i don't think dad would be dead.

by the way, i have nothing against guns. my dad took me to a firing range when i was about 8, so i would know how NOT to treat a weapon....
