Back in June I found out I have corpul tunnel syndrome...& I got that dreaded cortizone shot :faint: hurt like a sun of a gun...oh sure it worked for a while but  few months later and ever since my left hand has been waking me up in the wee hours of the morning hurting beyond belief...

Finally had doc appointment today...oh dear lord!!!!!! I spent 1 hour 45 minutes in waiting room of the bone and joint clinic and at least another 45 minutes give or take waiting on the doctor cause of an very scared little boy in the next room...and guess how long I met with the doctor...2 god damn minutes to tell him I want the corpul tunnel surgery and to find out I need to set up appointment to get nerve test before the surgery which I finally am going to get the electric shock treatments people think I so desperatly need..but not for my head...just the wrist but still I might have more frizzy hair either way ....

Good luck with the surgery. I've never had to have surgery but if/when I do I'll be really nervous. Good luck and hopefully you won't have to deal with the pain anymore.

What did you think of the EMG and NCS (nerve conduction study)?

Those darn things aren't so fun.

If your surgery fails to control the symptoms, check out a book called "It's not Carpal Tunnel."

Not all arm and hand symptoms are being caused by a narrow of the Carpal Tunnel (in the wrist).

Sometimes it can be a tendon sheath or nerve irritation by a trigger point, etc.

Some folks get it (arm and hand paresthesias) from having what is called Upper Crossed Syndrome (upper body posture that rounds Forward).

I have had it and it is not as bad as it sounds. I am a big baby and It did not hurt me that bad. I also had the carpel tunnel surgery. I was not knocked out totally but I did not know what was going on. It looked worse than it felt. It took some time to get the swelling down and it was ugly for a while but it worked. I have a tiny faint scar from it now.

Good luck with the surgery. I have "tarsal" tunnel, same thing as carpal tunnel only in your feet. I had surgery on the left foot back in July and am having the right foot done next June. It is a long recovery when you are dealing with nerves. You will get shooting pains for a few seconds then it goes away. You will touch one area and feel it somewhere else. Makes it kind of fun when you are loaded with the pain killers LOL!

I had carpal tunnel surgery AND cubital tunnel surgery back in May.

Three days after the surgeries, I had feeling back in my fingers! They felt normal, not numb and tingly any more. And they've stayed normal ever since. It's wonderful.

Healing from the surgery itself was a whole 'nother ballgame, though. Found some allergies I didn't know I had, and that set the healing back a lot. If I hadn't had those allergic reactions, I probably would have been back to work after two weeks.

I didn't mind the EMG and NCV tests. Only a couple minutes of it hurt, the rest was rather amusing, watching my fingers twitch when I hadn't done anything to move them. I hope your tests go as easily!

I have heard that accupuncture does wonders for carpal. Have you tried it? My friend's wife had it so bad that she had to sleep sitting up. She went and han't had a problem in years.

Either way good luck and I hope you feel better.

Hey Draga,

I have not had that particular surgery, but I have been under the knife a few too many times (not to mention I am a nurse, so take care of people who have had all types of surgeries). My dad had carpal tunnel and had surgery, and he is much better. The hardest part is not using your hand for weeks afterwards (not being able to button anything, etc). Just don't do what a friend of mine did - they did her hands three weeks apart, and it was not enough time for the first hand to heal...so she had to have her (ex)husband doing almost everything for her - can you imagine?

Yeah, when I had hip surgery they sawed BOTH legs in half and reset em with pins and rods..took a whole year before I could at least walk a lil w/o wabbling..actually I dont really think I stopped wabbling until I had the pins and rods out 4 yrs later...hard to walk with stainless steal holding ur bones together...

If it does take six weeks... :faint: I going to have a hell of a time studying and typing ...studying maybe I can handle...thank goodness for book holders :D

I had mine done on my right hand and I had to wear the brace for six weeks. It was hard to do some things since I am right handed but you learn to things with your left hand.

The surgery itself was not bad since I was in la la land. All I remember is the nurse putting this warmed blanket on me. That was the best feeling. I was so cold. I went to a good group of doctors and nurses.

Just remember when you look at it the first time that it will not look like that after 6 weeks.
