View Full Version : What other health problems do you have?
arkmalone 02-06-04, 10:50 PM OK, As I am a 44 y/o male with new diagnosed ADD, I wonder if my physical problems have contributed to my ADD, or vice-versa. Deep, I know.
My history is 3-4 yr history of Ulcerative Colitis. Intermittent migraines(seldom). Vague headaches from a myofacial upper back tension -pain more frequent. Allergies-nothing severe just daily sneezing from simple stuff.
I would like others to list there PMH--Past Medical History (and current).
SonWithAdhd 02-06-04, 10:56 PM My son who's 7 & was diagnosed with ADHD at 5 has no known allergies, but constantly has a congested stuffed up nose. He complains periodically of headaches. I have migraines, usually a few-several per month & migraines are 50% hereditary if 1 parent has them. My husb. has seasonal allergies & seems constantly stuffy. He has also had asthma since he was 3. Both of his brothers are very sensitive to seasonal allergies, dust, pollen, pet dander, all the "stuff of spring".
Nucking_Futs 02-07-04, 02:49 AM I was diagnosed ADHD late in life also; I have ulcers, migraines, and when very nervous I tend to stutter.
My son ADHD also has deep depression and anxiety attacks
My daughter has ADHD and the "princess syndrome"
arkmalone 02-07-04, 02:28 PM OK,now I remembered that early in lifeage 5 thru early 20s I too had a pretty significant stuttering problem. My son age 6 is in speech for a stuttering problem, we suspect he is ADD/ADHD.
I have always had allergies, and rarely some asthma attacks.
I have always had back pain as of maybe 12 years old.
I have always had RLS (Restless leg syndrome)
I have also always had shakey fingers. My father also had this and it never developed into Parkinsons or anything.
I get the occasional really, really bad headache, but it usually follows a head cold, so I think it from the upper nasal cavity drying out.
I also used to suffer from weekend headaches until I learned about caffiene withdrawl. lol
Nucking_Futs 02-07-04, 04:03 PM My stuttering is stress induced,,,the only time it shows it's ugly head is when I'm nervous or really excited about something.
SubtleMuttle 02-07-04, 07:44 PM Migraines. I don't get as many as I used to because I found out that a lot of chemicals I was working near was the trigger. These chemicals started them, and my system is still cleaning them out of my body, takes many years (perkyletholene- dry cleaning fluid; salon supplies- everything from hair dye to nail-chemical fumes in barely noticeable amounts. Made my ADHD worse too, stay away from these!)
Allergies: red dye, yellow dye (these I tolerate some now), artificial flavorings and fragrances, sunlight (mild sensitivity), Keflex, Tetracycline, Erythromycine, COCONUTS
I've read from several sources that prople with AD/HD tend to be sensitive to artificial foods, like those containing artificial dye and flavors. And that they especially aggravate AD/HD symptoms. Anyone else sensitive to these?
I also have a very weak immune system, I catch everything and anything, and it's as though I can't go a month without getting sick (and once a year I get something really WEIRD that I've never even heard of!) . I was weakened from 2 serious bouts of mono (the first almost ruptured my spleen). When I get sick with anything, or even just plain tired, my spleen gets sore and someitmes becomes swollen. Doctors- baffled, or brush it off.
Smoking, stress and caffeine makes this worse, I know- but I can't seem to function properly without these! I reap what I sow. I think that is definately ADHD/ADD related. My brain seems to need stress, nicotine and caffeine to stay focused; which causes and aggravates health problems; including a weak immune system, headaches and migraines.
Caffeine w/drawel bites steveb. It makes my legs cramp, took me a while to figure that out too!
Insomnia. I'm dosing myself on lots of melatonin every night though so it not a concern right now.
I guess I have stuttering to.
But not like repetitive like.
I just freeze in the middle of a word, until I can rethink how to say it.
It doesn't happen too often, but definately when stressed.
Jellybean 02-08-04, 01:20 AM Athsma and allergies bad in childhood, don't recall breathing through my nose till I gave up milk products at 15. Accupuncture gave me great relief from athsma. I have had it once in ten years. Allergies
are lessened from keeping pets outside and not living in a rainforest. I have been considered imuno-compromised and like muttle, catch everything. I do the flu 3x everywinter. Luckily not the worst sort. I have learned that If I stop and be sick I get sicker and for longer. Sinus headaches only. I have poor circulation. A lot of neck problems from hyper impulsive behaviors. (It was fun at the time!)
My son is very impulsive we are both undiagnosed, but pass the tests with flying colors, his father too. Apparently my son has a double dose of impulse! He is vvvery healthy, no known allergies. Although likely his diet plays a large role in his impulsiveness. Lately it seems to have blossomed, and he his being verbally nasty to me at times. We have also been not eating as well, due to a busy schedule. I plan to get back on track when my sched gets back to normal. OOOPs rambling

arkmalone 02-08-04, 11:19 AM A note to Janine regarding your son. My wife has found a wealth of info on conductdisorders.com .
I personally have thought more recently to have another allergy test. My last one was when I was about 12. I think maybe the allergy/immune system is more connected than currently most people think.
We'll see.
pembroke 02-08-04, 12:45 PM I'm "mild" ADD. I have seasonal allergies, and am very sensitive to loud noises, and smells. Perfumes can cause violent headaches. Cigarette smoke causes the headaches with nausea. When I'm tired, my ADD acts up severely; I can't pay attention too well, and I'm easily distracted. (Much more than usual). And I guess I used to stutter, too. I remember having to see a speech therapist when I was in first grade....
arkmalone 02-12-04, 03:47 PM OK anyone else?
It looks like we have a pattern with some allergies and, maybe some stuttering. Interesting.
prumont 02-13-04, 05:03 AM the "princess syndrome"
what's that?
Nucking_Futs 02-13-04, 07:37 AM She has the attitude it's all about ME ME ME ME lol
prumont 02-14-04, 12:34 AM ah yes I see what you mean - but one does grow out of (for the most part) pretty much all teenagers think they are the centre of the universe life sooner or later disabuses them of the notion :D
ADDfor2 02-14-04, 12:29 PM Wow, it seems many people here have migraines. I suffer greatly from them. It is partially hereditary involving hormones and stress and also certain foods and smells. Lately I have had worse migraines then usual because I am not happy with one of my jobs. Migraines it seems may be a common link with people with ADD/ADHD. Very interesting. Dee
joanrdtobe 02-14-04, 03:57 PM I also have hypothyroidism....and am on meds for it.....I get occasional high blood pressure.....I have intermittent knee pain for which I take glucosamine....Also some hip pain....
Fortunately, not migraines....although do get headaches when stressed out....
Jellybean 02-15-04, 12:56 AM I forgot to mention hypothyroidism also.
