You Know When you were diagnosed !

or

You Know when you finnally accepted that you are ADD

But When

or What

was the first thing you can remember that was directly attributed to ADD,
now that you have had time to reflect on your life and all the events that have led you to this haven of like minds....

I myself was asked to leave summer playground that was put on by the recreation board from the town I lived in.

I was told to go home and not come back and I still dont know the reason why.

I assume becuase I was so hyper and active ..

I would have been about 6 years old

I was suspended from school because I couldn't stay seated and was combative with the teacher when she tried to make me stay seated. I was in first grade.

I still don't know why, but my 10th grade english teacher told me he didn't want to see my face in his class anymore and to go work in the library. I always felt like i was missing something everyone else was so obviously getting.

Now that I think back on things for me the first sign was when I went to college...I've literally been back 5 times with meh 8 different majors..some I've even tried over again...but alas no degree.

I used to fight with all the kids, had no friends, did badly at school, was hyper, spent hours alone playing lego and had problems sleeping. I remember all these things from before I was 10.

As a few people have responded and had time to think about when they first new something was causing a problem

If anyone had told you " You Have ADD "

how would you have responded
would you have any idea what they meant back then
was the infrastructure in place to learn about ADD (ie: ADDforums )

Now zoom ahead to today (you are still at the age you were then )
but you have heard of ADD

how would you respond now
would you have any idea what they mean now
would you look for something like (ie: ADDforums )

Now you are the person that is in charge of an unruly child

How do you tell a child he/she are ADD
How do you help them to understand
How can we as " People who have experienced and are living with this( They think they are the same as everyone else )
How do we

pass our knowledge on to young kids who don't care becuase if you remember your own childhood, We thought we were the same as everyone else

( remember we are here because we choose to live here at the ADDforums to help ourselves )

Would it not be boring here ( at The ADDforums ) for a kid
Why are there no shows on TV (depicting the life of an ADD kid)
There are shows about black kids , fat kids , smart kids, sport jock kids, and so on.............
Everything you see thats out in front of the publics eyes regarding is either Bad or very Clinical, Dull and Dry

Im sorry I dont remember my life every being, either Bad or very Clinical, Dull and Dry

Do You ?????

when I was a kid, id run up the stairs to my room, get to the middle and forget why I came up. this happened 4-5-10 times a day, every day, n each time I thought "wth? i should know why i came up". so i guess ive always known something was wrong, just never knew what.

but in school, teachers called me a little angel, i sat quiet, always thew first to figure out a problem n raise my hand, but always did poorly on hwk and tests. if only I had applied myself... some of my most hated words

fire...the crackling sound of burning....
and stealing...anything I wanted..without thinking..at 6 years old..and savvy enough to get away with it...

turning on my record player, really really loud, laying on the bedroom floor, with my feet on my bed..banging my head, becasue I was grounded..
then climbing out the window when my parents went to bed..

not a lot really..LOL..
