I've just been diagnosed w/ ADD inattentive type-which is no surprise. I sort of self-diagnosed a while ago. I am somewhat surprised though, that the psychiatrist will prescribe(next appt) wellbutrin as a first line treatment. I have no depression and I quit smoking 8 yrs ago.
Has anyone else been treated w/ wellbutrin for ADD exclusively? How did it go?
This Dr. also gave me the impression that there is not too much success in treating ADD. That is contrary to what I've read (several times)-that medication w/behavioural training helps a large majority of people!

It's a great medication Pepedog.....with or without depression.....It's used to treat both........and the smoking thing is not a necessity either......I'll bet you will do fine......I'm on it for BOTH dep and add -- but I know you will do fine.....It is a firstline treatment........and for me there have been few side effects.....
Not much success with treating ADD?? I would not listen to him....and it IS contrary to what many have read.....not just you....more and more people are being treated now with some good results being reported........esp. as you say with therapy......
I suggest go in there.....get your meds.....take as directed.....stay in touch with doctor regarding side effects, etc. and stay positive.....and let us know how you're doing.....:)

I am ADD and the first thing they have tried me on is Wellbutrin. Been on it about two months now... in some ways it seems to be helping... in other ways, it is hard to say.
I think it's not making my symptoms go away but it's allowing me to better use the coping mechanisms that I SHOULD be using to cope with ADD, if you see what I mean...

Thanks Joan, glad to hear it's working for you! Waywardclam, do you find it's enough at this point? Or would you rather see the symptoms easing?
What about side effects? Either of you notice anything?

The one symptom I seem to have still is that I get very agitated when forced to focus on things that don't interest me.
I am still a bit scatterbrained, but I actually think that that has really improved.
I think I am better too at impulse control... some have still slipped through... but I am getting better at catching my crazier notions before I run off and do them.
Side effects... if I forget a pill or two, I get headaches and VERY grumpy.
Had muscle aches and a severe cough lately, but I think that's a bug I picked up at the hospital and unrelated.
BTW, welcome to the forum... have fun... check out the other sections! There's lots of neat and useful stuff around here, and the people are pretty wild too. :D

My doctor tried me on Wellbutrin five or so years ago when I first asked for meds for my ADD. I didn't get to see if it helped any for ADD because I didn't like the side effects (although they probably would have gone away if I kept to it). They were:
-pressure in my head/mild headache
-tingling head (especially when I ran my hands thru my hair--actually this was fun)
-acute hearing--loud noises hurt
-extra-sensitive touch--it felt weird/uncomfortable to touch things
These are the ones I can remember... I think there were more, but, eh, ADD memory, y'know?

Just started a week and a bit ago. Feeling kind of weird. Seem somewhat more focussed. Do have a kind of mild "just about to get a headache" thing all the time. Somewhat irritable too. And jittery. Hmm. We'll see I guess. I like that I am remembering a hell of alot more than I usually do, but not the rest of the stuff. Feel emotionaly neutralized, too.

I am on it for depression only... but I have recently heard that it is good for ADD as well... it doesn't help me with that though at all.
My doctor prescribed Wellbutrin XL for my depression..it has really been helping. I have been on it since January.
