Any graphic designers out there with ADD? I just want to know your story.
How do you deal with it? Do you deal with it?

Not a graphic designer, Architectural student. Think it should be close enough, I do a bit of Graphic desgn from time to time. Love the design bits, hate the study-boring parts. Actually dont hate the studies that much, just cant get myself to studying them, and when I have studied for them, I cant get to write down what is supposed to be in my head.

Why you ask? what is your story?

I'm a graphic designer and struggled somewhat through school. Somewhat because there were moments when I was on top and when I was at the bottom. I'm considering a career change. Perhaps something different or perhaps not. I'm also planning to address my ADD after 28 years. I was diagnosed as hyperactive waaaay back in the 80's.

I'm curious/skeptical at this point about ADD.

good luck with your studies!

hello again

I want to try Sacred Geometry or Mandalas. Example (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Rosycrosscolor.gif)

I have ADD, according to some docsandothers. Which just means, I get special attention, I guess.. .

Don't think too much about whether or not ADD exists, b/c your mind is the only authority. .. you can though. .. Scientifically, ADD/HD, is a naturalorreal phenomeon.. .

A decrease in grey matter in the right frontal gyrus, the right poserior cingulate gyrus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cingulate_gyrus)nad the left central white matter have been reported. Left-to-right asymmentry of the caudate nucleus, or volume abnomalities of it, as well as a significant decrease in the right globus pallidus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Globus_pallidus)size or smaller posterior-infoerior cerbellar vermis, are also common features of AD/HD.

Greetings, All!
I'm new to this forum but a seasoned-ADDer. I am a web graphic designer/developer and find this career to be a match made in heaven. Because of my short attention span, I find it advantageous to place 3 or 4 projects on my computer desktop at once and switch back and forth between them to maximize short bursts of concentration. The ability to hyperfocus and to be calm in the chaos of deadlines makes me a productive worker in this field.

As others have sometimes stated, the tech industry is a great fit for ADDers because it thrives on passion for the work, constant change, and unconventional creative solutions by workers who characteristically zig when everybody else zags.

I am really sorry. I don't know why but i have the instinctual feeling that all this ADD stuff is seriously BS. I get sick.............thinking about it.I'm an artist/graphics designer/architectural illustrator/design remodeler/web site designer.. and most other related arts fields work. I've been self employed most of my 60 year life with only a few jobs working for companies and most only in the last ten years. In those jobs I suddenly realized that something was definitely wrong with me and I had a hard time with the people skills and memory issues, but still excelled at the creative parts.

Anyway, it wasn't until a few months ago that I discovered that I have ADD, diagnosed by a specialist in that field after being sent to him by our marriage councelor who recognized the symptoms. I was then introduced to the books by Dr. Hallowel, the first, "Driven to Distraction" and the second, "Delivered from Distraction." These books were like a revelation to me as I saw myself from child hood through adult life fitting exactly into the descriptions.

Yooch: It definitely isn't BS, try reading the first book and then come back to talk about it. You may not have ADD, or you may find that you do, but your doubt doesn't dismiss the conclusive evidence for it's existance at this time. A lot of people are being helped by diagnosis and treatment. If you have ADD I hope you can get help as well.
