Ever notice how people who have ADD/ADHD can have some pretty long posts explaining thier take on things or their current situation but are seldom able to read such long posts? Or is it just me? Seems I can get through the first three or sentenses then I am gone...petting the dog, getting a drink, etc.

I normally read the shortest paragraphs/sentences first, then scan quickly through the long paragraphs for any keywords that I'm interested it then read it with a some frustration or if theres enough keywords I can read them more easily. No keywords or very long paragraphs/books etc are head burning stuff. I stay clear of books unless they have loads of pictures.

I can ramble on for ages if I am debating something, or if it is a bit in the "Attraction to Naruto" thread....heh...:o

Yeah that's me. If it's something I'm interested in it isn't so bad. I'm interested in pharmacology, mental health, ADD etc. so I guess it's probably a bit easier for me.

Long posts are okay for me if they are broken into short paragraphs.

When they are all close spaced and in the form of one giant paragraph is when I simply can't parse it out, so I generally don't bother trying to read those LOOONG posts that are single spaced all the way.

I usually say I'l go back to the long posts later, when I'm more alert. Of course by then I've forgotten all about it, or can't find it.

Unless of course it's really interesting to me. Then I can stay with it.

I love to read fiction, but anything else, forget it. But I've learned some history starting with fictional stories about real people. Then I'm motivated to research it, in bits and pieces. Just for my own knowledge, though - wouldn't want to take a class or anything.

Most of the posts on this forum are rambling streams of indecipherable jibberish. No offense to anyone but we all know the target audience that will be reading our posts, shorten it up or make it exciting cause otherwise I ain't reading it.

I gest the drift of long posts and then reply and that's why I tend to have some posts that have little to do with what was posted.

To be honest (and sorry everyone) but I find this site boring, not that I have anything against this site, but to me, its just people typing things that I dont really care about (sorry again)

But I still come on here for the sake of it when Im bored......uses up some boring time of the day I guess.....

thx fraser....lol whatever floats your boat, but doesn't sink mine

back on the topic...yeah I tend to go off on typing tangents...just whatever happens to flow after I've answered the inital topic of the post...they sometimes relate to each other...

Makes me think of people with ADD as one-way flow valves. Low or no input and excessive ammounts of output.

I agree that smaller batches of text are easier to read. Often times though i have a lot to say and feel stupid breaking it into individual sentences. I suppose then the sollution is write what you want to say in fewer words and make it ADD friendly. In other words not eye-offendingingly long paragraphs.

You can also implement humor :) generally makes things more fun to read. I do wish the threads had a simple spellcheck; i'm a spelling natzi >.>

As for reading long lengths of posts, yes it is intimidating but when on this site i constantly have a hyperfocus going because all of it fascinates me ^^

<fork type="rabbit-trail">

Firefox 2.0 and later has spell checking built in for text boxes, resembling MS Word red underlining. There are addins available for other browsers that allow this also.

I have to be grabbed in the first few sentences..
I can write a long post about something I did (like telling the story) but I get all mumbo jumbled up, trying to explain stuff, or replying..I start to ramble..
like now ;-)

It's funny.. I can write long posts but I just can't read them! *lol*

Most of the time I will do a quick scan. Sometimes I can get the gist of what the poster is saying, sometimes not. If not, than I go back and re-read.

Long posts AND long threads are tough to get through (which is why I often skim or read every 5th sentence or so).

Sadly, I tend to follow posts whose subject matter I identify with closely or that I find intrinsically interesting... :o

Sometimes I will print out long posts to read and reply to later.

Many times I type my response in Word I do that for threads too. That way I can take my time to get it right because I tend to type run-on sentences. And of course Word has spell check;)
