A~a~a~a~a~au~u~u~u~ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :faint: :o

Sorry, Folks!!!!! :foot:  :faint: :o

According to an email I got today the *77 story is a phony story and is in truth, Apocryphal !!!!!! :o :faint: :foot:
My intentions were good but another Scroo`up, nonetheless! :faint: It only shows how quick we are to believe in what we read as being the truth and I fell for this one without really considering the validity of it. :foot: I can't help but wonder Why the originator would've passed such a fake story around in the 1st place! I personally think *77 or something similar would be most helpful to lone women drivers or anyone who is vulnerable to being an unsuspecting victim. Perhaps contacting state governments would help in implementing this idea of *77. It would certainly give a lot of lone drivers a modicum of peace of mind.
;) :) :D

my brush with the faux article is what inspired my "superstition/urban legend game", I see that's a dead thread too.

If I had known that *77 was merely a hoax I would have definitely posted it in your Thread :Urban Legends. Also one thing I've noticed is that people tend to pick up on what seems like a dead thread may only be a sleeper and gain in popularity later. So don't give up hope yet. :D :D

And NonSequitur, I definitely will check out Any story and if it's an urban legend guess which thread it will go in....? LOL ;)

Thank Ya'll for your thoughtful words :D :D :D :D :D

Hey gang, it is worth while looking at the Snopes entry, because they talk about what to do when an unmarked police car's trying to stop you on a deserted road.

Enough fake police turn out to be robbers that, Snopes says, "... In 1996 Governor Pataki of New York issued an executive order to prevent unmarked state police cars from stopping motorists for routine traffic violations, citing "a growing number of cases around the country in which criminals trap their victims by posing as police officers." If he's worried about it, you should be too."

Snopes recommends calling 911 by cell while slowing and putting on flashers, driving to a more populated area.

Now I'm curious. Maybe I will call our police dept later today to see what they say. I'm guessing that on a country road late at night an RCMP car, or a US Highway Patrol car, trying to stop a passenger car might get pretty impatient and consider the slow, flashing but still driving car to be evading arrest.

Any police on this discussion group? What do you say?
