She thinks i'm bipolar. I don't show the typical signs of bipolar. I don't rage. I get mad and will yell at my hubby but who doesn't? I have bad pms. I've charted that. I also have hormonal problems. I have fibroids and endo. I had high risk pg's. From what i have read, when a bipolar is in mania, they are in their own world. They have no real concept of right or wrong. I might have described that incorrectly. They are out of control. I don't have mania, from what i read it is. I definatly need my sleep. Anyhow, her one reason for bipolar is my impulsiveness, which i have noticed has gotten better since i started effexor xr. The effexor doesn't really touch the lack of concentration but my self esteem is better. I still get distracted terribly. Now, can anyone explain what is too impulsive to be adhd?

Over-impulsiveness is a SYMPTOM of ADD. I think you need to double check your therapist's credentials...

Talk to your doctor about Straterra. I don't know your medical history or medication interaction issues.. but Strattera is working flawlessly to nix all of my ADHD “symptoms”.
There are different "degrees" of BPD. (I was misdiagnosed as ADHD from age 14 to 26. The Ritalin I was taking was a direct cause of “many problems”.) If you were mis-diagnosed ADHD and are really BPD this might solve your concentration issues with out being put on a stimulant (Ritalin, Concerta, etc)
Do your homework on the "shopping list" of bipolar symptoms..
I know that "bipolar" sounds a little nasty- but many people are mis-diagnosed ADHD because bipolar symptoms are similar.
You could always use get a second opinion~
Hope this helps!
(if not, just yell at your hubby :D )

I tried strattera and it did nothing for me. It did give me terrible side affects. I was so dizzy and my legs would hurt as if circulation was getting cut off. It just didn't work for me.
Does this MD have a lot of experience treating women with AD/HD? A lot of MD's diagnose women with Bipolar instead of AD/HD.

My "doctor" is one of several Physicians Assistant level therapists that see you instead of the Psychiatrist. (They're just pill pushers. :)
My experiences have been with doctors that preferred "trial & error" over their PDJ. So NO, they're not good at diagnosing men or women! hol (hurtin out loud :)

Its one thing to save health care costs (for your insurer) on maintainence care through RNs and PAs but its another to not be in touch with the actual MD when a critical and difficult diagnosis is involved. Don't let the insurer (or the dr office) save money at the expense of your health and happiness. Co-morbidity and misdiagnosis are all too common in mental health, so request the best in my opinion and also, in my opinion, get at least one more opinion. You can at least get a more well rounded idea of the complexity of the diagnosis by getting more opinions, which might lead you to the right diagnosis as well.
