Looks like FDA approval for adults is only about a month away (nothing but a marketing ploy) but the interesting tidbit is that additional doses will be released. Here is a press announcement from Shire..

During Q3 2007, the FDA accepted the filing of a supplemental New Drug Application for VYVANSE for the treatment of ADHD in adults. The Prescriptions Drug User Fee Act action date (“PDUFA date”) is April 28, 2008. On October 25, 2007 Shire released results from the Phase 3 clinical trials in adults. In this double-blind, placebo-controlled, four-week study with dose escalations in 414 adults aged 18 to 55 years, treatment with VYVANSE at all doses studied (30 mg, 50 mg, 70 mg) was significantly more effective than placebo.

Shire is expecting a decision from the FDA on the approvability of VYVANSE intermediate strength products in the pediatric indication by the PDUFA date, December 15, 2007. If approved, this would make 20mg, 40mg and 60mg product available, which are designed to increase the flexibility of the dosing of VYVANSE for the pediatric indication in the US.

Any idea if Shire will be offering doses higher than 70mg? I needed at least 90mg, but since that meant 3 capsules a day of the 30mg, my insurance denied it. Aetna HMO has a Vyvanse limit of 1 capsule/day, no matter what the strength.

It's only a 10mg increase and it might be easier on you giving you a 60pill/month count instead of 90pill/month count?

I did want to try 100mg, since I didn't have any side effects at 90mg, and it wasn't perfect.

Maybe when Vyvanse is approved for adults, Aetna will up the coverage to 2 capsules a day.

Aetna does allow 2 a day for Adderall XR, so I'm hoping that 2 Adderall XR 30mgs will be as good as the Vyvanse 90mg was (pdoc started me on 2 20's a day)

Everyone's different but in my case, 60mg of XR blows 100mg of Vyvanse out of the water, no competition.... 60mg of XR is so powerful :P for me anyway.

I recently read an article by Dr. Joseph Biederman (psychiatrist at Harvard and Mass Gen.) that said the conversion of amphetamines to Vyvanse was 1-2.5. A distinction was not made between Adderall and Dex.

Addadhdblog.com gives this conversation table for Adderall to Vyvanse. I guess because of limitations in dosing options the ratio is not going to be exactly the same for each conversion.

Vyvanse 30mg = Adderall XR 10mg
Vyvanse 50mg = Adderall XR 20mg
Vyvanse 70mg = Adderall XR 30mg

So I agree with Tylerlee, 60mg Adderall is a much higher equivalent than the Vyvanse you had been taking.

Which is cheaper, Adderall or Vyvanse?

Depends I think. Last I heard at a local pharmacy it was around $130.00 rounded for #30 Adderall XR 30mg and around $152.00 for #30 Vyvanse 70mg but I think prices vary I remember some people saying Vyvanse was cheaper for them.
