Hi Everyone,

I've been hoping and trying to find a support group in the Tampa Bay area for awhile now. I've even played with the idea of(and planned somewhat) starting a group myself. But alas, I get distracted (imagine that!).

I know there are others like me out there. And these boards are great. But, other than CHADD and the ADD conference, I don't find any way to meet folks in person. Any ideas?

Thanks!

SandiRella,

Were you able to find a support group near you?

Hi Big,

Nope. I think if there would ever be a new term for our brain wiring, other than
"attention deficit disorder", more folks might be willing to come forward and "group" together, so to speak..but that's just my opinion:)

Thanks for asking!

It not a disorder - Its an awake, alive and attentative (AAA) brain trying to make sense of the inordinant amount of attention to detail that regimented narrow minded scociety seems to value so much!!

We see the hypocricy in it and it causes some of the supposed "adhd / add symtoms" - I have an unaccepted diagnosis... I can relate to soooo much on these forums ... And I see no evidence to back up a brain dysfunction- even brain scans prove nothing!

Do you feel dysfunctional? - Perhaps sad , depressed, emotional, anxious? Every one does at some point. What happens if thier source of stress is never relieved ? They eventually become manic..... Bla bla ...,. I am not saying that we dont have a "situation". And mabe its just me ?

Before I forget - Im agreeing with your comment and am adding an emotional GRRRRR to it! Its not a defect- Our gifts are not expoited fully and certainly not appreciatted as much as they should be - especially by us!

In a nut shell we have a "reactive state of mind trying to hold it togerther in a "utterly crazy world" Were incredably addaptive! With effective teaching / and logical and fair laws ect .. ect.. We would rule! And perhaps will or do ??

O- and most important you said,

"more folks might be willing to come forward and "group" together, so to speak..but that's just my opinion"

We already are ... If im right I think we will see more people - a lot more.

I am hoping to get together this weekend for discussion with a local ADDer- contacted thru these forums. Hopefully I say because I know what Im like - and Ive hear all about add people , procrastinating, late , quick to say yes and then fail / forget / dont have time to follow thru... wow - rambiling

I will have to continue my "proof" of above statments another time - as im done for the night.

If the above was too wierd - Please be informed that my meds must have worn off...

Regards to all

Sandirella -- Havling lived in Tampa for over ten years....before moving to the Southeast Coast of Florida -- I can honestly say an ADD group would be a wonderful thing to start there.....

God knows it is needed.....There is much AA, treatment center facilities -- and a real "happening" population of people in all kinds of therapy......I KNOW an ADD group would be great.....you could "advertise" it in the Flyer and Tampa Tribune, etc....

Just my 2 cents....:)
