Fried bread is delicious served hot and spread with butter, jams and/or golden syrup and a hot cup of tea or coffee. Fried bread can be made in bulk, cooled and stored in an airtight container and is perfect for parties and/or outings.

INGREDIENTS:

Flour 5 Cups

Baking Powder 5 tspns

Milk 1 Pint (approximately)

METHOD:

Pre-heat Cooking oil
Sift flour and Baking Powder into a large bowl.
Make a well in the centre and pour in milk, combine mixture together.
Turn out onto a floured bench and knead gently with floured hands.
Roll to an oblong shape and cut into pieces.
Using floured hands flatten each piece.
Place several pieces carefully into hot cooking oil.
Turn occasionally while cooking.
Fried bread is ready when golden brown.
Remove from hot oil and place on absorbent paper.
Serve hot and/or allow to cool. Leftovers when cooled can be covered with a damp tea-towel and/or stored in an airtight container.
