View Full Version : handling early drop off
2scattered 11-12-07, 07:04 PM I've been taking 70mg of Vyanse for almost 3 weeks. I notice it starting to drop off around 2 and then rebound sets in around 4 or so. I definitely need more coverage. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing an early drop off and how you and your doc are handling it. Anyone taking an extra capsule during the day or an IR Dex?
netsavy006 11-12-07, 07:36 PM sounds like the dosage might be too low. Were you ever on adderall XR and if so at what dosage?
Tylerlee17 11-12-07, 09:24 PM Same thing happened to me on 50mg of Vyvanse it would drop off (even though honestly I bearly felt it) about 7 hours after taking it, at 100mg it lasted nearly 12-14 hours.
blueyeyore 11-12-07, 09:58 PM I have issues with my Vyvanse...just got upped to 70mg per day due to it wearing off too early.
When I started out on it at 50mg per day I was good for the first 6 weeks, but after that I could definately tell when it wore off.
Eh..like today for instance. I took my meds at meh 11am-11:30ish...They were gone at 7pm and I've been ready to crash since.
brianadhd 11-12-07, 11:56 PM I had the exact issue today with early drop off. Since my Adderall XR dosage was anywhere between 40-50mg a day, I have been taking one 70mg Vy and eyeballing roughly 1/3rd of another capsule in the morning, in an attempt to equate 40mg Adderall XR. Noticed drop off significantly around 1 or 2, and major rebound (irritable) by 4. Tomorrow, I will try 70mg + the remainder of the "partial" capsule, something like 116mg, and see how that works. That should be equivalent to about 50mg of Adderall (+ or - a few mg).
I wonder, for longer lasting coverage, if it might be better to separate the doses instead of all in one go. There's still so much uncertainty with Vyvanse right now, we're like guinea pigs!
2scattered 11-14-07, 12:39 AM So Brianadhd, how did it go today...w/ 115mg Vyvanse? I took a 70 and a 30 together and I think it was better. My mind was definitely calmer and quieter today so I was able to get more done. I think I avoided the 4pm rebound too. Have a headache now, though...but that's okay.
But does the fact that I saw a difference today really mean anything? From what I've read it's recommended that you sit on a new dose for 2 weeks or so. I guess when your measuring duration it's pretty straightforward, though.
Tylerlee, how were you taking your 100mg? All together at once or did you split doses?
brianadhd 11-14-07, 02:01 AM Felt great...until lunchtime again. Appetite suppression was a tad more prevalent, and had a few minor headaches come and go. Also, my anxiety worsened and I had to up my Xanax intake by 1mg. After seeing the doc today, we're going to try 30mg in the AM and another 30mg at lunchtime and see how this works for a week. I know that's less than the total of 70mg I was taking at one time. Will report back in a few days. I'm really wanting to try one of Methylphenidates (Concerta or Focalin), but we'll see how this dosage works.
asteroidearth 11-14-07, 02:55 PM What fixed it for me is eating and drinking. As long as I did that, even very small amounts, I didn't experience any drop off.
krazy_mountain 11-25-07, 12:34 AM What does rebound and dropoff mean?
I think I know what dropoff means: that the medicine's effect has worn off. But what does rebound mean? Is that like the (unwanted) after effects of the medicine?
Would the next day jittery feeling with caffeine be an example of rebound?

Rebound is a return of ADHD symptoms after the medication has worn off.
heretic 11-28-07, 12:23 AM i had the same problem, 60 in the am wore off just after lunchtime
now i take an extra 30 around 12 or 1.
still though, that wears off before i can afford for it to do so.
Gotta talk to the doc, see what he says.
chinesebob 11-28-07, 08:56 PM I've been taking Vyvanse for about 4 weeks. I found that 90 at one time wasn't enough or too much depending on sleep and food.
My doc and I worked out that I take 50mg when I first get up and then 3 hours later take another 50mg. With the first dose I usually have vitamin fruit smoothie. At the second dose I eat something small - granola bar or the like, and drink as often as I can remember to (which isn't a lot so I bought a case of costco vita water and put it on my desk). I also schedule snack breaks and lunch - but I keep healthy food around in the event I forget to stop working.
Usually I don't experience the drop off or a rebound, if I'm eating healthy consistently through the day. The other thing I found was if I was starting to lag for one reason or another is an emergency diet mt dew - takes me the rest of the day very smoothly without jitters if it's after the drop off starts.
