Hi,
I thought I would ask here as I am sure these is alot more knowledgeable people that could answer my question.
I am trying to figure out which is a better benefit for ADHD symptoms- a higher EPA or DHA?
Seems all that I am reading is conflicting. I found some that say DHA is the most important for brain function, then I read another site and its EPA, or a higher EPA than DHA, completely opposite!?
Also, needing to find some names of products that are sold in Canada that are easy for kids to take, not those huge ones. I am now taking the ones I have bought so not to waste them.
Thanks:)

Actaully it's both. You need both EPA and DHA for either to work I believe. I could be wrong, but from what I've heard I think that's the case...

Mrs. A, seems from what I've come across, it is the very high EPA that has the most effect on mood, etc. When I switched to the high EPA for my son and I, there was a noticeable difference for both of us.
Someone posted here about emu oil helping too, but I don't know what mix that is.
Thanks, what brand is your son taking and how much EPA/DHA are in them? Are they a smaller size? Seems the brands I have found that make the smaller ones are the same ones that claim DHA is the higher one that should be taken.
I did find articles stating that ADHD people lack DHA but they need EPA which then the body converts to DHA.
OK I am going to see what Costco sells now....ugh

Mrs. A, you probably won't find the high EPA at costco. My son and I take 03Mega+joy from Genuine Health. They are 1 gram each, kind big, and enteric coated. Hard for someone who has trouble swallowing pills or for a child. You might look into VegEpa, it is nearly all EPA and some evening primrose oil and vit E to preserve it all, I think are all that's in there. It's a very high quality product, and we took it for a while when DS needed a smaller dose while doing Dore. The caps are smooth and in smaller doses each, so several need to be take to reach a full gram dosage if that is what was recommended. Make sure to check with the doc too before taking it too.
Hope I caught you before you got to Costco! LOL!

I did go there and I also went to a large grocery chain up here and they sell the 03mega+joy and I think they are would be too large but it comes in liquid form. Expensive-$40 and $23 for the large pills. Are they cheaper in the US as I live 45 min. from the border to Washington.
Costco has larger ones that are 500mgEPA with 200mgDHA. They also have smaller ones that are only 100mgEPA and 50 mg DHA. That is still higher than the ones we now have. I was told Learning Factors by Natural Factors and they only have 65mg of DHA with evening primrose oil and GLA- taking 2 twice a day.
I have now been told that DHA is important for child brain development which is probably why some say DHA is what lacks in people with ADHD. I also read that it is possible that people with ADHD cannot convert EPA to DHA properly so DHA is also important.
This is going to be experimenting I guess. I will let him finish these ones and then try something else. He has seemed to be less stressed/moody since taking these ones, but who knows if its that or he is settling in better at school.
Thanks for your response :)
