Hey.
Well.
Recently, I was taken to a doctor and I talked alot about stuff, they asked questions, ie; do you feel you can't sit still, 'on the go', do you act before you think, do you concentrate easily or do you get distracted, do you this and that.
My mum came along and she talked alot about how I was as a kid, that I was the 'hyper, angry, loud one' compared to my sister, and other kids that she knew and stuff. She talked about how I was. All that stuff.
So, I was wondering, how long (for you) did it take to be diagnosed? Like, what exactly happened?
x
Thanks.

Hi, Sarey.
I am 25 and I was diagnosed just this year. I never thought I had ADD until my brother was diagnosed and I learned more about it...researching the topic made me and my family realize that a lot of us definitely seemed to have ADD. I am one of the only ones to go on and get diagnosed, however.
I have always figured something was "not quite right" with me but I never knew what. I had no memory, my thoughts were always racing, and I just plain saw the world differently. I was misdiagnosed many times by different psychiatrists. They would usually tell me I had OCD or Bipolar Disorder but I always knew they weren't quite right, that there was something else going on.
After my brother was diagnosed and I figured I had ADD I didn't tell the latest psychiatrist I've been to. I wanted to see if he could come to the conclusion on his own. I didn't want to force a diagnosis on him.
I felt he was very competent compared to the other psychs I'd seen (he came highly recommended by my therpist, whom I have been seeing for the past three years) and he asked me a lot of thorough questions before concluding that I had ADD. I was very relieved that finally someone had confirmed what I felt, and I am excited to start taking Aderall...can't wait to see what happens, although I know not to get my hopes up TOO high...
Hey Bethany.
Thankyou for replying (so quick too!).
Yeah, they asked me LOTS of questions, I was like 'what?'.
I'm glad that you are feeling better for what's happening. If I knew what was up with me I know I'd feel relieved and better too.

Welcome sarey, I know as an adult getting the diagnosis of ADHD was a pain, I was diagnosed as a child but I required all of the testing, still again.
Damn, that must have been a pain in the butt for you! :(
*pokes everyone*
People must have stories about their diagnosis, etc.
