I'm an identical twin. Both my sister and I have ADHD. On one hand being a twin has been a plus when it comes to dealing with my ADHD because I have always had someone close to me that truly understands where I'm coming from, that speaks my language. That is SUCH a blessing.

On the other hand, it makes it even more difficult when dealing with other people. We are so used to communicating freely in our ADHD "language" that we get especially frustrated, hurt, and confused when interacting with non-ADDers. Our relationships with the opposite sex have been volatile and I feel that is because we have a problem with attempting to be close to non-ADDers when throughout our life the closes person to us truly "got it."

i'm an identical twin. My twin doesn't have ADHD.

As children she did however copy my dyslexia.

MissAdhd,

Meaning you were and/or are dyslexic and she just decided to pretend she was, too?

Were you born first or second?

I was born second and although my sister and I both have ADHD I am double jointed, left-handed, asthmatic, and much more likely to get sick in general.

Bethany,
do you mean to say that you have trouble with social cues and boundaries?
I have a fraternal twin brother and am used to being able to communicate what's on my mind.
For some reason, I think having a twin has contributed to my different socialization.

I'm one minute younger. We're both quite double jointed.

she only had a copy cat version of Dyslexia, but didn't actually have a learning disability.

Ur right being a twin does interfere with socialization. Which is why its important when twins are young to give them some alone time from one another.

My brother and I were inseparable when we were younger, not because of a chosen bond, but because it was easier on my parents to have us participate in the same experiences so that we wouldn't have "unequal opportunities."

We both ended up at the same college and we both had/have sticky relationship issues: he would date a close friend or we'd have to look out for each other's wellbeing. The closeness between us was good but it fostered this inability to know how to develop a voluntary closeness with people as evidence by our college relationships.

We're both pretty introverted, overwhelmed by social stimuli and don't know how to get what we want from relationships. Not socially inept, just socially awkward and clueless. Wish I knew how to make up my socialization given that my peers have a greater sense of what they want in a relationship.

So, having a twin who shares your experiences and ADD is a mixed blessing.
