FrazzleDazzle 11-26-07, 09:39 PM Sheeez, 13 posts and no lights yet, okay, I'll go, even though I broke the rulses and no tripod......you sure can tell! No great works of art here, just captured the moments down the street here, seeing what the settings do what. (Hint, auto night scene works just as well as ME fiddling with all the buttons! Heehee!)

~boots~ 11-26-07, 10:08 PM awww..cute..did you JUST go and get them???? LOL..They are great..even witrh no tripod ;-)
FD..if you can, stick the camera on a solid surface..your car etc, set the shutter to about 5 seconds, the iso to 100-200 and then the timer so you don't shake it..and see if it makes a difference ;-) I find with my camera, the longer the shutter is open, and the lower the iso, yet a medium f-stop, the lights get a really sharp twinkle ;-)
just tell me to shut-up if you don't want my camera jargon !!
FrazzleDazzle 11-26-07, 10:29 PM I propped the camera on my vehicle, but it was running, so I know there was a bit of a shake there. Will take your suggestions, keep 'em coming, please??? :-) Cannot wait for the tripod, and will try the whole thing again next week. Yep, this was tonight!
~boots~ 11-26-07, 10:30 PM thanks :-) I bet it's getting cold out now too!! Good luck next week..you have great shots already!!!

NonSequitur 11-29-07, 11:59 AM Tracy, you should start a thread for photography tips and suggestions. :-)
~boots~ 11-29-07, 12:00 PM Tracy, you should start a thread for photography tips and suggestions. :-) :-) I'll pop them here so we don't lose them :D
FrazzleDazzle 11-29-07, 07:14 PM I would be one that would really gobble those suggestions up! I am reading and playing as much as I have time for, so Tracy, if you wanna share, you've got a willing audience! :-)
Soooo.......watch out. Have camera AND tripod (YAY!!) in hand, and lots 'o light to go see! MB, we live in a big place, and it seems like some neighbors get really competitive about who has the flashiest place, so an entire street can be really cool to go down, course the lookers driving around the neighborhood is a real nuisance, but they put up with it for a month!
Matt S. 11-29-07, 07:16 PM Mine will be fuzzy cell phone pictures but the snow is sticking and the lights are starting to go up.
FrazzleDazzle 11-29-07, 07:40 PM Bring 'em on! Them phones do alright, have fun with your new one, can't wait to see what you come up with. love the snow. :-) There, you have snow and lights. Here, we have tumbleweeds and lights! Seriously! Sometimes we see snowmen made out of tumbleweeds. :p I'll try to find one..........
~boots~ 11-29-07, 08:08 PM yeah Matt....bring it on :-)
FD....I haven't seen a decent house lit up yet (still a bit early..but probably next week..!!)
BUT..the shopping centres have some MAGNIFICENT trees etc !! I now stand there..thinking.."wow...FD'll love that!!!" and I wish the shops had no lights on, so the decs look better, BRIGHTER...more twinkly....more SPARKLES ;-)

I found a few places around my suburb with only ONE strand of lights, kind of chucked in their gardens..or strung around the gutters...LOL..I didn't even bother getting out of the car!! I do know where there are some brill lights usually, but I was hoping to have some nearer ...oh well..lets string up some lights, blow up a santa, and light up the RUBBISH BIN!!! LOL....

I love the last one though..
FRIDAY!! FD..FRIDAY :-)
FrazzleDazzle 12-05-07, 01:28 PM I was on the search, during my son's tutoring session! I ended up in a posh neighborhood (nadda much) and the trailer park. Surprisingly, the prettiest ones were at the trailer park! Perhaps they have more time. The snowman in one of them is one of our fake tumbleweed snowmen! LOL! Sheeez.
Can't wait to see what you find Friday! :-)
4gotAgain 12-05-07, 02:02 PM great pics!!!!
This short segment in the link below was on the news last night. That road thats in it is like 30 minutes walk from my house. It's really close so I'll get some really good pictures and put them up on here.
Watch this..

Can't wait to see what you find Friday! :-)is a trailer park like a "caravan park" like where there are a few permenant ark homes, mainly retiress..and pleanty of space for coming, in cravans for holidays?
I always wondered??
We are like photo prowlers..LOL..:p
4ga:It's really close so I'll get some really good pictures and put them up on here.
cool :D
4gotAgain 12-05-07, 08:08 PM no worries. Where in Australia are you from? I have lots of family in Aussie.
FrazzleDazzle 12-05-07, 08:40 PM Tracy, the trailer park I got the pics at were "permanent" mobile homes. NIce area actually. RV park is like the caravan you wrote about.
4GA: can't wait to see yours of that beautiful house. I'm sure you'll have a crowd to beat though! We had a street nearby that the "other" (grinches) complained about and there was "alternative" parking and trams going to the street, and police patrolling the area, it was just nuts, but worth an evening trip to be sure. The neighbors all eventually moved out.....:-(
4gotAgain 12-05-07, 08:45 PM I think the whole street in Ponsoby is done with Christmas lights. Thats why so many people que up there. A mate of mine lives on that street and told me that they chuck eggs and rocks n stuff at the houses that don't do their houses up with Chrissy lights.
Your pics are lovely. Do they have RV parks like that over there? We don't have RVs here but I saw them on that RV movie with Robin Williams playing the main guy. Keep the pics coming! :)
FrazzleDazzle 12-05-07, 08:54 PM Hey, no lights is no reason to egg......that's just mean. Yay for the sprit 'o the holiday, 'eh??? Geiss all the traffic would put a damper on the quite holiday though?
OHMYGOSH do we have rV parks over here, just like that movie (which was hilariuos!) we have a HUGE retirement community here in Phoenix and a lot of winter visiters (called snowbirds) and many travel in their motor homes and just lodge up for the winter! Very quaint, and mostly very good folk.
4gotAgain 12-05-07, 08:58 PM I love america lol, I want to live there one day. Phoenix is in Arizona right? Right in the Nevada desert. Am I close? Snowbirds lol, I didnt think that it snowed there.
I always find it weird hearing the stories about snowing at christmas time. Here its summer and it can get quite hot. We usually have a BBQ for christmas and head down to the beach.
FrazzleDazzle 12-05-07, 09:20 PM Yes! Phoenix is in Arizona, the sonoran desert, right cadycorner to Nevada. We have snowbirds, because it doesn't snow here (well lightly maybe every 10 years or so! LOL! The weather is like in the 80's all winter mostly. Like the birds, they migrate to the south for the winter where it is warmer. it's so different from place to place! I cannot imagine a BBQ for Christmas dinner though, what fun!
Are you and Tracy neighbors at all?
4gotAgain 12-05-07, 09:27 PM I've never seen snow either. It snows further down south. I heard alot of people go to Florida and Hawaii for the sun as well. I've been to America but only the mid-east like Chicago, Ohio, Pensylvania, DC, WV. I really want to go back!
Tracy lives in Australia, I live in New Zealand. NZ is an island separate from Australia. Its 3-6 hour plane flight depending where and from your travelling. So I guess we are neighbours but not directly. Kiwis (our nickname) and Aussies are alike as people in some ways but in others compltely different.
I love christmas day, just being with the family and everything. We have quite different traditions here thats why I'm failing all these quiz things in chitchat lol.
no lights yet my parents havent done them yet
FrazzleDazzle 12-09-07, 09:52 AM Last night I went up to a sister city here, where there is a very popular holiday gathering this time of year called Glendale Glitters. Glendale decorates the streets and the shops duirng the weekend nights. This part of the city, some of the residential area has been zoned to retail, and the quaint little shops for a few blocks are actually prior homes. In January they turn it into Glitter and Glow, where they have hot air balloons lining the streets. I think I'll make that one too! LOL

we did is not thatOh NO!!!! That's totally a bummer. Can you change the fuses without taking the lights off?
Spongedaddy 12-09-07, 07:41 PM There's a whole lot of text in this thread. As soon as I get my camera back I will try and get some shots.
Excellent work Frazzle. I think Clark Griswold wpuld be proud.
FrazzleDazzle 12-09-07, 07:45 PM Thanks Sponge! Yes, this thread definitely needs some more lights! Really looking forward to more, hope you get your camera back. What happened to it?
Who is Griswald? Better go Google!
FrazzleDazzle 12-09-07, 07:48 PM Oh! arr arr! Yes, I hope glendale residents are happy about the electric bill! LOL!
Spongedaddy 12-09-07, 07:56 PM I love Christmas Vacation. So many classic moments. The one with him plugging in the lights is one of my favorite scenes.

meadd823 12-17-07, 04:22 AM Okay I tried it again when it wasn't raining - the only things I edited were the contrast / lighting {that is why you see no poles holding stuff up} and added the text every thing else is "real"
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s206/tlr823/Christmas%202007/BertramChristmasCheerDec2007DSCF156.jpg
remember I live in BFE and people in Bum-fu** Egypt, Texas have their own ideas of Christmas themes.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s206/tlr823/Christmas%202007/HappyHolidaysDec2007DSCF1568.jpg
What can I say - dinosaurs for Christmas. . . ?
I also tried fiddling with that ISO thing mentioned earlier in this thread. . . tried various angle well until I had to head back to the truck because I was too cold
This came out pretty cool - I may size it down for a signature if I can with out it distorting too badly.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s206/tlr823/Christmas%202007/DSCF1563.jpg
I am not sure if that helped or if the fact it wasn't raining on my lens either way these are a few of the better ones - the ones where I wasn't shivering so bad the whole thing was blurry
meadd823 12-17-07, 04:33 AM This is a house down the road - the snow flakes on the porch are taking turns flickering to a Christmas carol - which is why they look like that.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s206/tlr823/Christmas%202007/DSCF1574.jpg
This is a tree in front of the electric company - that is being reflected in a puddle in the parking lot -
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s206/tlr823/Christmas%202007/yulewarmthandLightDec2007DSCF1571.jpg
The biggest editing I did was cropping out the on coming traffic - this is actually next to a highway and ohh yea and I added the text.
Any way my attempts - maybe when we go home or to San Antanio I will get some really cool ones. Not bad for a simple JC Penny digital camera and no special filters or lenses.
