My SO sent me this.

I'm posting it b/c it covers the issue of Docs prescribing Depression meds based on Drug Company paid education, not scientific evidence.

Certainly raises a few eyebrows.

Yeah, that's a problem. Some doctors are taking a stand against it, declining gifts from drug companies and such. It's a small start.

I spent years going nuts trying every new AD on the market that doctors tried regardless of my going manic, it didn't make sense.

I have a different understanding of that phase of my life now.

My cousin was a pharmaceutical rep going from doctor's office to doctor's office shmoozing them with dinners, golf, free stuff with the implication that they give preference to their drug. It's very real.

I read the article and found it quite detailed and worrisome.

The dr who wrote it has given up "selling" (giving talks on lunch hours), and now runs a journal/web site discussing various psychiatric drugs. It is here: http://www.thecarlatreport.com . Looks quite interesting and is written in a conversational manner, easy to read.
