View Full Version : Carpet problem with ADD

I make more sense on the phone than in person, most of the time. Probably has something to do with having less distraction on the phone, which helps me focus and think clearer. Once in a while, if I’m uncomfortable with whom I’m talking to or the subject matter, I have to write my important points down before making the call. Otherwise, I’ll just babble and forget all my points until after I hang up.

The one thing I do in all phone situations is walk. It might be in circles, lines, figure 8’s or some other arbitrary geometric figure, but I must walk or my brain will shut off!! Sometimes the faster I walk the smarter I get. This behavior has one major downfall. I have trails forming in my carpet, which leads to a very short carpet life. I guess I better start moving the furniture every other day so the carpet will wear evenly.

Does anyone else have phone problems?

My Hubby does this also...but he is NT. It annoys me and I will hurd him into another room and shut the door.

Every time I am on the phone I walk like crazy. It doesn't matter who I am on the phone with I tend to walk no matter who it is. I definately have wear patterns in my carpet!

I can't talk on the phone and be seated at the same time... I think too slowly when seated.

I'll walk many many laps around my kitchen and living room... circles.

No, the carpet doesn’t have ADD silly! It’s just lazy, it lies around and does nothing all day.

[Not since I got a cordless phone.]
Maybe that’s the answer! I should get one of those antique phones with a cord. One potential problem though, I can see a whole new meaning to the phrase; ‘being tied up in knots.’

i walk while on the phone too...all over. i have hardwood floors though, so no wear marks (yet!). and sometimes i do when in person too.

i find the movement soothing. i also rock, totally unconsciously, but i do it everywhere; work, out watching bands, in the car, waiting in lines, etc. it throws me into a sort of calm, focused state. it feels SO good to rock. i'm not really sure what triggers it, i've monitored for years but never found a common link between rocking episodes. most of the time i don't even know i'm doing it unless someone tells.

i think the rocking and walking are probably related somewhere deep in the gooey folds of my brain, ha!

Movement provides clarity of thought, at least it always has with me.

Same here. I notice that when I am walking or running mentally I have much more of a clear head

How about getting a tread mill so that your ADD carpet won't suffer from your abuse?

The other day I was in a School Library, so when my phone started vibrating I, being the polite individual, left the room so as not to disturb.
When I "came to" I guess you could call it, and hung up, I was quite surprised to be outside getting covered in snow with a group of kids staring at my bare arms and t-shirt.
I guess I sorta wandered...:eyebrow:

Now be polite. It's not a lazy carpet, just inattentive.

I like long phone calls and really "sink into" the call, but still doodle and chew my fingernails during the call. I can talk for 20-40 minutes, easy.
