Hey all,

Well I've been on Adderall for a few months now (30 XR in the am) and falling asleep hasn't been too big of a problem before.
But lately every night I lie there ready for sleep, but am not able to fall asleep without a prescription sleep aid (which I refuse to take until the wee hours of the morning of days of sleeplessness). I really don't want to have to pop a sleeping pill every night :( What to do?
I don't drink coffee after 10 am (one cup a day only), no green tea and other caffeinated stuff and I never had problems before. Just these past two weeks.
I also take Prozac before bed, which is like a sleeping pill for me and I'd be falling asleep no problem when I skip a day of taking Adderall.
I've tried everything natural, herbal, hollistic for insomnia, nothing but prescription sleep aids do the job.
I hope this is just a phase.
I'm just lying in my bed, listening to my heart beating and can't go to sleep.

Well, you take Adderall

^what?

If adderall hasnt had this effect on you before, then its probbaly something else(although the adderall could possibly amplify its perceived effect).

maybe look at your diet, if you've been eating something out of the ordinairy, or a sudden change in routine.
but mostly i'd suggest you ask yourself if there could be an emotional reason attached to this, either something recently happening, or an old memory thats come back. insomnia is often the result of emotional turmoil. sleeping pills is just a bypass to your mind's telling you to reflect (if its psychological)

Yeah, maybe my first post was abrupt, maybe it is also the rebound from Adderall, if I don't get my last dose of long acting dexedrine I can't fall asleep

I would exercise for an hour that sometimes does the trick.

It could also be stress. I have a tough time falling asleep when Im worried about the next days events. Also, I have found in the few months Ive been on Adderall that once I feel like I can go to sleep, if I fight it and stay up and play Xbox or whatever, I pay the price. Its like it kicks back in or something. So if I feel tired, i try to go ahead and lay down. Unless its the weekend and I can pull a late nighter.

One more thing. I have been having pretty bad insomnia issues lately too. After about 3-5 days of continous lack of good quality sleep, my immune system seems to get weaker, my adderall doesnt work as good, i dont want to eat and just feel all around crappy. Not a good thing. Get your rest. IT will also help your heart. My problem is taking my meds too late in the day. But somedays I have to for work purposes.

try to consider the things that are stressing you out. identify them and try to find a solution (if it applies). I get periods like that (hence why I posted at 3 am when i worked 4 hour later, havent gotten any sleep yet myself. but i usually get over it, wether i understand why it happened or not

Melatonin seems to help me and many others here on the ADDF.

Thank you everyone.
Yes, there's a lot on my mind lately. But I've been through worse times before and was still able to sleep well. Like I said, I'm a good sleeper.

Yesterday I slept fine finally :) I don't know why on some days, the Adderall lasts REALLY LONG, more than needed, but I don't feel it till I am in bed, dead tired and sleepy, but not being able to fall asleep. Other nights, like last night, I have no problems.
Go figure.
There was a time when I thought my Adderall XR was wearing off too fast and now I think it lasts too long lately. So strange. I guess it's better that it lasts longer than less (except when I get insomnia).
I don't know...maybe just a phase.
Thank you for the feedback and ideas :)
Sooo sleepy lol...
