Meth releases a surge of dopamine, causing an intense rush of pleasure or prolonged sense of euphoria.
Over time, meth destroys dopamine receptors, making it impossible to feel pleasure.
Although these pleasure centers can heal over time, research suggests that damage to users' cognitive abilities may be permanent.
Does this happen with adderall and all types of meth or just street meth? I'm getting worried.Also I appear to be getting "meth face," I'm not sure what that's about. Anyone?

I think that is only a problem if you abuse Adderall, like take 500 mg at once for example.

But maybe I was a person who naturally had a lot of dopamin receptors, because when I first started nearly a month ago I took 40 mg a day (as I was prescribed, and 20 at once) and experienced an EXTREME of side effects. After that day I only had one day where I took 40mg again, and once again I experienced really abnormal side effects long after it was supposed to be worn off. I don't seem to experience the same feelings as much anymore, but I do get a boost in my mood after taking it and feel depressed other times (I've been depressed for years, but I think its worsened) and I have experinced all of the side effects listed here but not to suck an extreme:

At least I don't think to such an extreme, but they were awfully extreme.

Plus, I've been picking at my face more and now my skin looks bad and causes scabs from picking!

I'm afraid. What if my dopamine receptors can't ever go back to how they once were?

I've also caused an instant and noticable raise in one of my obsessive-compulsions that I've dealt with on-and-off at times in life, which is the constant blinking on my eyes. This time though, I've experienced something new: the blood vessels in my eyes are bursting. This is painful and irritating but I can't stop. Oh jese, I clearly had high dopamine as it was. Gahhh

EDIT: But you know what else may have caused my receptors to be up, just a few weeks before I'd been taking Lexapro (just eleven days, but they worked so well it scared me so I stopped [I know that's weird], plus I was experincing sexual dyfunction and was afraid of PSSD). Perhaps this was it? I truely have taken to much dope then.

Adderall made me really obsessive.Mmm, yes. I'm now reading about OCD being caused by increased dopamin levels, and how this decreases serotonin because they balance each other out. Do you feel depressed when it wears off then? It almost seems that all adderall users would have to if their serotonin is being decreased.

I get really angry during stimulant rebound. But I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder and get really angry when depressed anyhow, so I guess the answer would be yes.

I'm told that I get abnormally angry and agitated also. That the medicine is "changing" me. I only hope this is reversable.

It is, there are other options too. I take dexedrine and like that a lot better because it isn't as rough on the system as adderall.

The difference with Meth is like others said; you're taking in much larger quantities over a shoter period of time.. Often snorted or smoked; which effects the brain directly and doesn't pass through the gastric system to be broken down at all. This has can have a much different effect on the drug's actions and negative side effects.

You're also not using something thats been pharmaceuitcally rendered. Often Meth is made in someone's garage or house with unsafe chemicals, fillers, buffers, etc.

Although Adderall is an amphetamine; the dosage commonly perscribed shouldn't have that type of an effect on the seratonin and dopamine receptors. Everyone is different so it's always possible..

Well I was kinda freaking out then, but now I'm thinking maybe its not all bad but I'll just try it again when I get over my bad virus. I have all of this bad stuff happening. And I DO have meth face, I've got scabs and I'm a seventeen-year-old with a sudden onset of wrinkly old lady face! Crow's feet and all! My dad just turned on the water though so I'm finally drinking some, for some reason we've got to keep the pump off most of the day. Mmmmm. Water.
