View Full Version : New to adderall
I recently was diagnosed with adult adhd and was prescribed adderall. first week i took 10mg and then second week was told to bump it up to 20mg.
i haven't taken it every day (usually not on saturday and/or sunday). so far the only side effects have been loss of appetite (fine with me), chest tightness (partially cause of anxiety relating to upcoming wedding), and of course dry mouth.
Today, after having been on the adderall for about 2-3 weeks, I experienced 2 new side effects. My hands and feet got VERYYYY cold (like an icicle) and they also got sweaty/clammy. I also sweated a little under my arms, but not much.
This was really weird cause I was INDOORS and all I was doing was sitting in place. At the time this happened, I had been sitting for a couple hours straight reading a newspaper.
Is this a normal side effect? Anything to be worried about? Today my chest tightness was worse than usual, but I thikn its cause I was freaked out by the cold extremities and sweating thing.
Never head of that side effect. But, Adderall can constrict your blood vessels which could explain why your hands and feet got cold. It will happen to be, usually one or two fingers will be cold or one foot. Don't know what caused the sweating/clammy feeling. Talk with your doctor as soon as you can about the above and about the chest tightening. Maybe you need something for anxiety.
Matt S. 12-02-07, 10:59 AM i have heard of people sweating more from stimulants under the arms and the cold in the extremities from what msam76 said.
Those side effects do not sound too bad though, I have heard of much worse (psychosis, tics etc)
you should definitely see your doctor about the anxiety though, with that taken care of you should be able to feel better.
Thanks for the replies. Anyone else get these side effects?
addemon 12-02-07, 01:58 PM I am taking 5mg of generic adderall for 2 days, I had the same thing happen 1st time I took it. Sweat and cold part. No chest tightneess. I actually felt relaxed after taking the med.
it happens to me when i drink caffine. usually right when the caffine is gonna wear off.. I think same for adderall. Stimulant i guess;
let me know if your doc says anything about it .
thanks
Matt S. 12-02-07, 03:47 PM Addemon is that kind of like Adderall and Pokemon put together?
addemon 12-03-07, 09:17 PM I little bit of pokemon sounds good with anything. :-)
Ok I spoke to my doctor. She said to cut back to 10mg instead of the 20mg I was taking. She said 15mg would be better, but I only have 10mg pills and so she said at my next visit she'll change the prescription to 5mg pills. She said that this can happen with adderall if you're on too high of a dose.
I lowered the dosage and now my hands stay warm, but my feet still get cold. I guess that'll just be a side effect I have to deal with...
Also, I still get chest pain, but I'm 95% sure it's cause of anxiety cause whenever I have it and then I talk to a friend or see something fine I suddenly realize it's gone.
ben72227 12-10-07, 02:56 AM Very normal side effect.
I get clamy/sweat hands from taking Adderall quite often.
I also lose my appettite and occasionally will have the 'tight chest' (i.e. I start taking deep breaths and feel anxious for no reason).
mainer5 12-10-07, 01:46 PM I positively get the cold, sweaty hands and they look purplish, like you can see the blood vessels in my hand, kinda gross and annoying but I do think its kind of going away or I'm getting used to it. The chest tightening is pretty bad with me too, and my heart races. Overall, I would say I am not very healthy on Adderall, given that I cant increase my heart rate anymore than it is now by working out, and I have abnormal eating habits. On the other hand, I drink a LOT more water without even thinking about it.
BethanyBez 12-10-07, 03:35 PM I get the cold, sweaty hands as well. Also the chest tightness--it's like I'm having a mini asthma attack.
Sadly, I seem to be the one Adderall-taker on Earth that does not have a loss of appetite. I would love to have some diet help but I'm just as hungry as ever!
supamook 12-13-07, 11:54 PM i get the cold and sweaty hands/feet too. actually, it's less bad now on 15mgx2/day than it was on the 5mg2x/day that i was on for the first month (and didn't work, i might add :))...so maybe now that i'm at a therapeutic level, the side effects have gone away...or my body has just adjusted. dunno.
I wonder if adderall can cause "diabetic blindness" aka vision loss from constricted eye vessels bursting.
Extra cold hands and sometimes feet...definitely. And it's hard to get them to warm up again. Even if I wear warm gloves. If I've reached that point where they're ice cold, it takes a long time to get them warm again.
But I'm the type that gets cold easy. I can't handle the cold weather. That's why I moved from NY to LA. LOL. Still freezing in the winter and blasting the heat in the house, but better than when I was in NYC. Miss so many things, but not the cold ;)
