I've noticed on this forum that various people take days off from ADD meds. I have only done so by mistake. I've been on Adderall 15mg for 1.5 years, and have missed taking it maybe 6 times.
Is there a reason for taking a day or a weekend off from meds? How do you feel when you're not on meds for up to a week?

Taking 3 days a week off is the only way that I have been able to keep Adderall working the best it can for me. When I take it everyday continuously, I build a tolerance...and I refuse to increase my dosage. Because that is cycle I am not interested in getting caught in.

I manage the off days fine...usually the weekends anyway, and I am on Wellbutrin XL as well, so that Im sure helps.

The optimal effectiveness is the key part of it, I agree that taking days off decreases tolerance and a lot of people have issues with it.

However, there are some cases like in cases of extreme appetite loss and a lack of tolerance where it may be not good to take days off.

My case is a good example, I take Dexedrine (similar to Adderall) and my appetite takes four months to come back, force feeding and emaciation are part of what happens to me so I can't take days off or else I look anorexic, I also don't develop a tolerance to the effect I need from the drug either.

Wait, so you're saying that you eat LESS when you are not medicated?? Thats interesting because stimulants usually diminish ones appetite.

I never take it on the weekends - only on days when I have school or work.

For one - I don't need to be super alert and focused on my 'off days' and two - I don't want to build up a tolerance. Besides, why would I want an Adderall crash at the end of the day if I'm not even going to benefit from taking the Adderall in the first place?
