View Full Version : Is my doctor lying to me?

My doctor makes me come in every three months for a check-up, and claims that it's required because I'm on Adderall. I really don't have any idea if that's true, or if he just wants to make money off of me. I've been on Adderall for over two years, and our appointments always go like this:

Doctor: So, how are we doing today, [looks at clipboard], Matthew?

Me: Fine.

Doctor: Great! See you in three months!

I'm sick of wasting my time and throwing away $15 for the co-pay every three months. I live in NY State - is he right about three-month requirement?

No, he's not lying to you. 3 months is legally the longest ammount of time he cant write out prescriptions for with out having to see you. A lot of doctors actually have their patients come in monthly. Only having to spend $5 a month for office visits is actually pretty low.

Oh... all right, then. Glad I didn't challenge him on it and make a scene. :)

You have the best arrangement you can get.

I had to go monthly in California. Then trot off to the drug store every month for a 30 day script. Quite an exhausting shuffle compared to what I have now. I see the doc every quarter, send in the prescription for mail order delivery. Yawn its so boring.

In my case, the "how's it going" question is an open invitation to run my mouth for a while. Even with medication, I can talk your ear off if I'm not careful. LOL not so boring.

My doc doesn't have to look up my name - she remembers me alright. I'll bet some doctors are careful to only schedule one or two ADHD patients a day.

Yeah, seriously.

I drive 50 miles every single month to see my doctor... I don't have insurance, so I pay $75 PER office visit!!! Luckily now I can do the $75 visit every three months, but I still drive 50 miles AND pay $15 EVERY single month just to pick up my prescription. You've got a good set up with $15 every 3 months. Trust me! Don't complain! http://addforums.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif

Same here. I live in S.California. I guess the State requires it here with stims to be that way. I understand a lot of people abuse the drug and I hate having to pay for their addiction issues. What can you do?
Read about the new law in another thread. Things may change soon. Less trips to the docs office hopefully for refills.

When I was on my Dad's insurance back in the day, I had a mail order pharmacy that let me mail in 90-day prescriptions. That was awesome. Only had to go in once every three months and didn't have to worry about filling the darn prescription once per month. I didn't realize how much of a pain it is.

There's some rule here they can't write a prescription for that kinda drug for more than 30 days at a time. There's also a rule here that you can't pump your own gas and that you can't by alcohol betwen 2 am and 6 am.

Yeah, the rules vary state to state. In Texas, I know that I was able to do the mail order pharmacy for 90 days supply, BUT I could not just walk into any ol' pharmacy and get a 90 days supply. The prescription had to be sent out via mail order.
