hey,
wow somehow everyone during finals week and pre finals week, manages to get adderall and take it in rediculous amounts and abuse the crap out of it. I'm sitting here in the library writing a 4 page paper and its taken me like 2 hours to write one paragraph, im on my adderall, but I am diagnosed with ADD with some hyperactive qualities. Some of my buddy's here nicknamed me "circus" cuz i can be crazy at times lol. Anyways, college students without add just pop like 30 mg xr drink a double shot espresso, and write like a 10 page paper in like 2 hours and manage to get an A on it :(, while i get like a C on mine and it takes me like days to write it.

How does everyone manage to get it? i know there aren't enough people willing to supply thousands of kids. Plus they go into their finals having memorized like everything in the book and get A's on the final, while ill get a B on my final :( with putting more time and effort than them. Non-add people that use stimulants and get the top marks completely mess up the curve for the exams too and then in turn the outcome of the entire class's semester grades.

I see some people take it and we will take the exact same test, and ill have put in more effort and time then that person. Yet somehow he comes out with an A, and i get a B :(.

Im trying to think of a way that taking the drug could be regulated, maybe like a drug test for everyone the day finals start hah, but that would be to much $$$.

You guys have any thoughts or inputs/experiences with this stuff? Any ideas how it could be regulated better?

thanks for your inputs!

it'd be nice if it could be regulated

i hate bustin my *** and then watching someone who is abusing drugs that are supposed to help people like us achieve close to the same level do even better and not even try.

i saw it all the time in college, got bugged for my ritalin, offered money for it etc.

i actually used it as one of my projects ( my counselling course) and talked about script drug abuse, specificly ritalin and college students and how the system is allowing someone, somwhere to have a script for a drug there not using

I wonder how on earth everyone gets ahold of it too! Its a shedule II drug so the FDA is supposed to count every pill and keep track of who gets it in their big data base.

Sorry about the writing problem, I've been there. Its like, you write a line or you're just thinking of what to write next and something in there pulls you into a nice daydream that its hard to get out of. Daydreams are addictive, you know? They're like video games, you can't stop once your in. Or maybe that's just me, lol.

they get it the same way you and i do, from the doc. Suzy walks in, tells doc she desperately needs to lose 40 pounds, lifelong family doc sends her home with adderall. Marc goes in to doc and tells him he was on adderall as a kid but he quit taking it and could get by but now its just too much to handle at college and everything. Doc gives adderall. I think the problem is that doctors, for the most part have to accept what the patient is telling them is the truth. Because they may be. Most sicknesses are obvious to DR's. ADD is based on what the doc is told, you cant tell by looking down the throat or listening to someone breathe. Doc's usually gonna give benefit of the doubt unless he firmly thinks you are lying.

malingering for stimulants is common in college students, I have read numerous articles on the subject.

Meanwhile I need treatment and can't even get a $#&^%$! diagnosis. Maybe I should go hit up college kids for meds -- sit in the Student's Union with a tin cup...

Docs don't just hand it out. Maybe some, but we are talking a few shady ones - and I've never met one of 'em. I've had to fight the whole way to be believed. I know what you are saying. I'm all for drug tests on exams. I'm so sick and tired of having to struggle to get to a level where I stand a chance to compete with the other students, although I'm still on a lower level. And then, some take stimulants, and become WAY out of my league again. You are kidding me...

ya its really annoying. I struggle hard even with the medicine, and still have to put in the same amount of effort they do when people without add aren't using stimulants. Then when they get stimulants they become like super genius's, and absorb everything somehow, and then end up with an A. I still find my mind wandering off and on when on it and trying to study, but def not as much as i normally do.

Does anyone know if state schools in california offer special areas or rooms where i can go to study in complete silence and with not many people around? Its finals week and everyone is in the library, and some people think the library is a place to socialize and be really loud :(. Would i be able to reserve private study rooms and jump ahead of people because i am in student disability services?

I know a LOT of ppl who get diagnosed with add/adhd and will only get prescribed adderall for money. They won't use adderall themselves but they'll just sell them like crazy. For instance, a kid I used to know in high school who was diagnosed with adhd told me "i don't like how it makes me feel so i don't take them". Now, he sells a 20 mg Adderall XR for 5 bucks a pill. Also, a lot of kids w/ add don't take adderall over the summer bc they figure they're not in school so they don't have to. So, they end up having an excess of pills and just save them up until they find people to buy them.

It's really horrible, I know.

My meds are worth too much to me to sell them. People wouldn't pay that much. -:eyebrow: :faint:

But you could ask around. Maybe your doc could write a note that you need it, but maybe not for the library. As for a noisy library, tell the staff to do something about it. We'd get whopped to make a sound.

What other people are doing does not directly affect you. It sounds like you are just upset and frustrated at yourself. Comparing yourself to others will only make you sad. There will always be smarter and dumber people than you and that will never change. Just try your best, thats all you can do.

If you have trouble writing a paper, grab a pen and paper and go some place quiet. There is almost always a way to cope.

Also, remember that stimulants do not make you smarter so it is likely that these people taking stimulants are just really crazy about getting a good grade and would probably get a good grade anyway.
