Hello fellow ADD'ers

I am newly diagnosed as of last month. Was perscribed 10mg of generic Ritalin 3x day. It has been SO HELPFUL!! But I didn't care for the down time between doses or the anxiety I sometimes felt during that time.
I told my doctor that I wanted more complete coverage (9am - 9pm). So she put me on 20mg of Adderall XR 1x per day - I take it at 9am and other than a 2-3 hour window in the afternoon, feel no effects at all (other than a headache). I feel mental muddle! (feels worse than before I started Ritalin, or did I get accustomed to thinking more clearly?)
What is going on with my Adderall?

I really loved how Ritalin (methylet...something) helped me. But this Adderall isn't doing the job at all. Granted It's only been two days - but I could tell right away with the Ritalin. Do I need a higher dose or a different drug?
Also I CAN'T SLEEP! I slept great on the Ritalin...now....no sleeping for me! (as I type this at 4:42 am and have to "get up" at 6am for work!!)

Please give me your two cents on the matter. I'd really appreciate some feedback. This forum is my only access to other ADD'ers.

I take adderall and I think it helps but I dunno maybe I should try Ritalin, lol.

From what you say, if you dont like adderall than just go back to ritalin. No med is perfect (although I still try to find one all the time).
I actually felt the same way you did, you just probably are not used to the med yet and these may be side effects. Open the pill and take out some of that dust stuff inside it (like little beads). After you do this, put the pill back together and take it. Take out a lot at first and over time take out less and you will get used to it. It worked for me.

Please be advised that this is only advice and that you may want to talk to a doctor before doing this. I only did this after my doctor said so and explained it to me.

Doesn't concerta last longer than Adderall? Adderall lasts for up to 13 hours but is really only effective for about 10. Why did your doctor choose adderall over concerta?
