View Full Version : Adderall/Appetite--Anyone Else?
BethanyBez 12-08-07, 07:52 PM Just wondering if anyone else is finding that Adderall does NOT affect their appetite. It seems like most people have this side effect but I don't seem to have it at all and I'm wondering if that's the case for anyone else.

I still have this side effect, though it's not significant. It makes me a little less hungry. It's more obvious if one takes it while hungry, and then judges to see if there was any impact on one's appetite.
mainer5 12-09-07, 04:07 PM Appetite loss is a big side effect for me...some food also tastes different/disgusting. I really dont know anyone on Adderall that doesn't have this...so consider yourself lucky!! I wish I could eat normally.
Michael_J 12-10-07, 11:51 AM I've lost 13 pounds since starting three weeks ago.. I needed it too! I had a friend tell me I looked like Santa Claus!
It's not necessarily appetite supression for me though.. I will often literally forget to eat (something I've never done in my life), and when I do eat, I get full pretty quickly and see these moments of eating as a just a necessity to keep moving. I was always a fast eater but now I stop eating when I'm full and get back to life.. I can also concentrate on my diet and foods, rather than just give in to indulgence. I've dropped down two pant sizes and am rounding the corner to fitting into the jeans I wore in college 7 years ago!
I have heard of some people that it doesn't have an appetite effect though.. so you may not be alone.
My first three days on the meds, I ate twice TOTAL. Not a good way to lose weight, but effective..
BethanyBez 12-10-07, 04:58 PM Yeah...I don't know...I think I just got unlucky, lol!
Addywhack 12-11-07, 10:56 AM I was 6ft tall and weighed 165 when i started 4 months later im 5-5 and weigh 148. Kidding about the height, but the weight is no joke and Im too skinny as it is. ITs the most disturbing side effect for me.
JustinL 12-11-07, 05:47 PM Well Im 5'8" and 120lbs...but Adderall didnt effect my weight OR appetite much, Ive always just been a small guy.
Teedrum 12-11-07, 05:57 PM i welcome the lack of appetite....i need to drop some poundage
ben72227 12-11-07, 08:40 PM I lost weight on Adderall. It kills my appettite.
But I make myself eat though - because if I don't eat, the crash at the end of the day just feels terrible.
It doesn't seem to have a huge effect on my appetite itself, but it does significantly affect the amount I can eat in one sitting. I've learned that it's best for me to just eat a little bit at a time throughout the day.
flirtingwithfate 12-12-07, 10:10 PM Before Adderall, I had such an unnaturally strong appetite that I had asked my doctors if there was anything wrong. My parents suggested a tape worm since I play with lots of animals and eat a lot. Following a gastrointestinal problem, I actually was tested parasites. Negative, thank goodness. I guess just good metabolism or something.
Still, I have to make myself eat with Adderall. I have a really hard time, but then at night, or on a weekend if I skip Adderall, I pig out:)
It affected my appetite more when I first started. I lost 10 pounds in a few weeks and was ecstatic. I didn't feel hunger whatsoever. I could still eat if I wanted to, but somehow the joy I got out of food was gone.
Then after the 2 weeks or so, that "no hunger feeling" is replaced with "I can feel I'm hungry, WHEN I'm really hungry and not when I'm bored and just feel like eating will be fun". So I eat the right portions, the right food, when it's time to eat. No problem with binging out of boredom/stress like before.
I don't crave certain bad foods like I used to.
I still need my finger food when I take a break and am watching something on tv. I go for those 100 calorie popcorn and some Raisinets. But instead of eating a lot, I play with it, go slow and let it be just a low calorie finger food.
I have always had the need the eat crispy things...Chips, crunching on slushed ice, stuff like that. But I don't have to do it so much like before. I allow myself once or twice a day, when I'm reading a book or relaxing, making sure the calories I'm taking in are low.
I would like to lose 8 pounds, but I haven't in weeks. Maybe one or half a pound a month, although I pay attention to what I eat and my calorie intake.
I have a messed up metabolism, due to yo yo dieting over the years, and am not huge on working out on a regular basis. So I have to watch what I eat.
Adderall is helping me making the right decision when it comes to food choices.
I can still eat, but it doesn't let me pig out like I used to.
I stop when I'm full. Or get full quicker.
In the past, I could eat till I felt sick. That's the only time I finally "felt full".
I'm a normal eater now. I eat like normal, healthy people.
It's great to be able to make natural, good choices when it comes to food and not be overcome by feelings of uncontrollable bingeing.
:)
