View Full Version : When do you say this med isn't working for me?

I have been on Lamictal for 9 weeks and currently take 200mg. At first I thought I was seeing an improvement, but now it seems to be doing very little. I know I have had a lot of stressors in my life, but the meds don't seem to be helping at all. It may be that I haven't hit my therapeutic does, but wouldn't you figure it would provide some relief?

My visit to the docs office this week will obviously provide more info, but I wanted to see what people here have experienced/think.

I was on a steady dose of 200mg for a while, but ended up being increased quite a bit because of stressors, etc making things worse. I'm up to 375 mg. now. I've wanted to increase Lamictal, but when it came to Ritalin or Straterra I knew I wanted to quit it for another med. I guess it was because I saw the negative more than the positive. Or the absence of positive. My decisions are anything but scientific in their deductions.

Spongedaddy I think you might be able to see more relief if you had a low dose of an antipsychotic and/or benzodiazepine.

I second the antipsychotics. Seroquel helps a lot even though I'm still cycling. I can think much more clearly and it helps with the agitation and restlessness. It even gets rid of my headaches. My psychiatrist added Abilify to the mix, but I can't really tell if it does anything or not.

I love Lamictal. It has helped me a lot.
When I first went on it and was working up, I wasn't sure. Then 200mg was good for a while but I wasn't as much better as I needed to be. Went up to 200mg 2x a day and bingo.
You might want to try an increase before you drop it and start something else. If that doesn't work then by all means, move on to the next thing til ya find the right one.
It sucks that it tends to take so long to find the right med balance. :P
