Here's the story: Before going to the hospital, I was taking 3 medications. They were Lexapro, Xanax, and Concerta. With concerta I felt more alert and more focused. I was having Problems with my friends that caused great stress. Wanted to try Adderall after finding out about SCT. I went to my doctor (he was a different doc than usual due to insurance change) and he wanted me to cut Concerta cold turkey and start Adderall. I landed in the hospital about 1-2 weeks after starting Adderall from a mixture of the aforementioned friend stress and the crash resulting from the immediate loss of Concerta.
In the hospital, my medication was changed to Paxil, Klonopin, and ritalin (same drug family as concerta), I felt wonderful there. Left hospital, still wanting to try the Adderall. Went to normal pill doctor and he had me gradually get off concerta and go onto Adderall. (No crash, THANK GOD!!! :D) During the month of the gradual meltdown of concerta, friend problem was comming back and getting worse. About a week before full changeover the friend problem was solved. (Thank God!!!).
During the first week of Adderall I was a little anxious (just a little) of what might happen, but I waited 2 months I can wait longer. However, near the end of this week, I noticed my anxiety going up, more than it has been in a while, but I remember reading about the side effects on WebMD the first fateful time I swiched over and I remember reading that nervousness was a side effect. So, I thought hopefully it will go away or wiill be solved through meds. Because of that I guess I forgot about it and there was an increase of Adderall from 20mg to 30mg. I am noticing an increase of anxiety that I haven't felt in a long time. So I called my doc and told him about my theory about the Adderall causing the nervousness and we are now making a plan to switch back to Concerta.
Here are my questions:
1) I have been on a methylphenidate drug (concerta/ritalin) since I was a little kid. If Adderall is causing my nervousness, why wasn't Concerta/ritalin causing nervousness?
2) With Concerta/ritalin I was alert and focused (if I took it in the morning and went back to sleep, I would be up within an hour in most cases, no matter the fatigue (tired but thinking not adhered by fatigue) and I could stay on task/topic even if I didn't like it). I don't think Klonopin's sidating effects mattered with concerta. With Adderall, if I take it in the morning and go back to sleep, I could be asleep for hours, I feel tired most of the time (starting about 6hrs after taking Adderal) and as I am writing this, staying on the task of writing this thread in combersum. Though on tasks like driving I realized that I can talk and keep focused on driving. If a med for ADD is to work are the main things to be effective to be the alertness and focus, or are there other things to consider?
3) I was taking lexapro before the hospital visit and was at 40mg, a dose pretty much pushing the limits. I have been taking Lexapro for longer than I can remember and it was great. I am now taking Paxil. Is Paxil compairable to Lexapro? Is there something better?
That will be it for the questions for now. Thanks for your time.
